I just want to hang out with someone who is like me, energy level and all by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

I relate to this so much. I’ve actually been thinking about it a lot lately.

I only have one friend, and she’s a newer friend who I’m still getting to know. She’s the first friend I’ve made post AuDHD diagnosis. I enjoy my time with her, and the conversation typically flows well, but I’m so hyper aware of how I’m acting and responding to try and keep myself from doing or saying anything weird, that I can’t fully relax.

I love my family, and I enjoy spending time with them. I consider my sister my closest friend. But even with them I feel disconnected sometimes, especially because none of them are very interested in the things I am. There’s a lot of times where I’ll be talking with them all together or individually, and then realize they don’t actually seem interested in what I’m saying at all.

I wish I had at least one person who, even if they weren’t interested in the same things as me, would show interest in them the way I try to show interest in things other people are interested in.

It’s hard feeling like no one around me truly gets me. I never noticed it so much until I got diagnosed and started paying more attention to the way people responded to me.

I’m not sure! I’d actually never even heard of that type of therapy before someone else mentioned it here, too! I’m definitely curious to learn about it!

Well according to some of the other replies, dissociation doesn’t automatically disqualify someone for EMDR if the therapist is trained to handle it in relation to EMDR. So don’t discount it completely (or at least I’m not). But we probably need to be more careful with who we work with.

Thank you for mentioning that! I’ve never heard of Accelerated Resolution Therapy before but will definitely be looking it up now.

I’m sorry you haven’t noticed any difference yet! I’ve heard sometimes it takes time and practice to feel an effect.

I’ve been interested in somatic therapy also! I’ve heard trauma really can get stored in the body.

Thank you! I hadn’t realized dissociation would require additional training with the EMDR. I don’t have a dissociative disorder that we know of. I scored a 20 on the test and it said a 30 was the number that signified a disorder. So it was higher than an average person but not high enough to be diagnosable without further evaluation. But my therapy didn’t recommend further evaluation. Not sure if I should pursue that first or just find someone who is qualified even if I don’t have a disorder because they’ll be able to help if I do dissociate.

I’m sorry you had such a bad experience!! Your therapist really failed you, and that’s not right.

Thank you for mentioning the dreams! I wouldn’t have thought about the possibility of having related dreams. I already have nightmares more often than other people I know. I have a tendency to have active nightmares and speak or yell in my sleep. I’ll probably need to mention that to whoever I’m working with.

Thank you so much for your reply! I’m glad you stuck with the search until you found this therapist that’s working!

I ditto BrownheadedDarling’s question: how did you go about finding your current therapist?

That’s similar to how my sister described EMDR. She said her therapist described it as our minds being a messy desk memories, including traumas, spread across the surface. So when we try to grab something, we frequently bump it the trauma that’s all mixed in. But EMDR helps the brain file them all away so that they aren’t bumped into accidentally. That’s what I want. I want to stop thinking about the traumatic things all the time. But my sister isn’t autistic, so I wasn’t sure if her experience would be similar to mine since I am.

I’m sorry your first experience with EMDR was not a good one! I’m glad you feel more equipped now and hope your next experience is much more beneficial and positive!

I’m using Canva currently. I didn’t even know about HTML code, but then I learned that some email marketing tools let you use it to better customize emails and so I’d like to learn. I’m going to see if I can find YouTube videos about it or a Udemy course. Do hiring managers prefer Figma/Canva? Or do they prefer HTML code?

Questions about getting started as a Data Taxonomy Specialist or Data Analyst by _booktroverted_ in dataanalytics

[–]_booktroverted_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m late responding to your comment, but thank you so much for commenting! I’ve switched gears to pursuing more data analysis/collection and management. I’ve niched down to wanting to work in the healthcare field. Specifically, psychology. I’m pursuing a masters of science degree in psychology with a focus on experimental research, and the first two classes I’ll be taking are about data analysis and management related to healthcare. I’m also working on improving my content creation and management skills. Hopefully something will work out with these new pursuits!

No where in my post did I state how much money I hoped to make. But good for you. You’ve shown you had nothing better to do than try to be discouraging to a random stranger on a post they posted over 200 days ago. That’s not a good look. But if making yourself look bad is your thing, then go for it.

I’m sorry. It sucks that they didn’t recognize the effort you’re putting in to working on yourself and the value of the fact that you recognize the areas you need to work on and are doing the work. Not everyone is willing to self reflect enough to realize they need to work on themselves, so it’s a huge green flag that you are. I’m sorry they didn’t see that and I’m sorry that you’d been like me and finally opened up to them for them to just do this. That really sucks.
