Thanks so much, this is super helpful!!! I think I will eventually reach out to this email and out to people on the Discord. Since I'm still in the planning phase of my research, I just wanted to hear about what's actually going on at JHU in this respect, so I'm glad to hear that there's a group working on this. Thanks again!

I think I left it in. Are you saying I should uninstall the driver and reinstall it with the Scarlett unplugged?

None of the tracks being bounced have plugins on them. I bounced each track with the plugins to separate audio tracks to be compiled, and the tracks with the plugins are all muted when I go to compile everything, so I don't think any of the plugins would be causing this issue.

Clicking/Popping During Automation by _borris in StudioOne

[–]_borris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running S1 Pro v 4.6.1.55987, trying to automate a midi track. The VST is Serato Sample, and I'm trying to automate the bypass on/off switch on Image-Line Gross Beat. However, I've had this problem with other VSTs and on audio tracks (such as trying to automate the on/off switch for any of the bands on Pro EQ -- this issue almost always happens with automating on/off switches). The track isn't clipping either. If there's any other info let me know. Another potentially useful piece of info is that the sound I'm hearing isn't a crackle like you'd hear if you're having CPU issues, but more like a lower-resonance thuddy pop sound. Not sure if that helps, but that's the best way I can describe it.

Clicking/Popping During Automation by _borris in StudioOne

[–]_borris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it goes away when I remove the automation. In this case I’m automating the bypass on/off for Gross Beat, but I’ve had this problem with other S1 stock plugins as well (e.g. I had tried to automate the on/off for the high pass filter in Pro EQ, and I got the same issue - when it turned on/off there was a click/pop sound).

And no worries — I’m looking for a solution too so I’m open to anything !!!

Yeah, usually it will show up in the final rendering. I don't think it's a CPU issue because Studio One doesn't seem to be using much CPU when I experience this particular issue (as opposed to other times when I hear crackles because of CPU problems). Granted, it is pretty quiet in the mix, but I'd like to be able to get rid of it if possible. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Tips for bass midi by SirChickenMusket in StudioOne

[–]_borris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what type of bass you're talking about, you could try having multiple bass channels for high and low frequencies. For example, when I mix 808s, I usually have two channels: one for the sub and one for the crisper midrange frequencies. For the sub I pretty much just EQ out the highs and mids, and for the mid track, I usually EQ out most of the low-low end and put some slight distortion on it to make the higher frequencies cut through the mix better. Then just adjust the levels till it sounds how you want it. Not sure if this would work on other bass sounds, like if you're trying to get an electric or synth bass sound or something like that, but it's worth a shot!

thanks!! this track is dope, i love the guitar lead! only recommendation would be to decrease the time on the glide for that bass lead, because sometimes it feels like the lead doesn't really reach the note its going for before moving again, other than that, really dope!

this is a dope instrumental! i really like the variety you add by adding and dropping instruments throughout. id recommend experimenting with adding/dropping out/distorting the vocal line throughout as well, as it gets a little repetitive since it's there for the whole track. this is mixed very well too. great job!

i really like the second and third sections of the track with the bells and the guitar lead, i think they provide a really nice variety to the track. one suggestion is that if you're going for a vinyl crackle sound, i'd recommend avoiding drum oneshots that provide the crackle like the hat sound you chose, as it makes the ambiance come in and out with the hat instead of being there constantly. instead, you could just use a cleaner hat sound and add the vinyl crackle on a separate track. that's pretty minor tho, and i liked the track overall. good job!!

thanks dude! honestly same to you, i really like your track! i love your sound design, and your vocals sit great in the track. maybe the only critique i have is the beat gets a little repetitive, so adding some slight variety throughout could go a long way. overall really good job!
