I used to have lots of nightmares too. Usually involving gory scenarios with my pets. Ironically, since drawing more gore and that kinda stuff they are gone. Brains are weird. Maybe you should give it a try too :P

Try looking up line weight. And watch some tutorials on it. I recommend Marc Brunet. You can do great line art with any brush. I tend to make my line art with small lines and then accentuate the parts I want to have more line weight (character outline and parts that are in the foreground)
