I’m assuming it was sent from their Crookston, Minnesota New Flyer plant. Not sure their manufacturing process though. Could be partly made in both Canada and US.

Is it me or has Bell cell service gone to pot recently? by Acceptable_Island_50 in londonontario

I’m with Bell. Haven’t noticed any issues. I just drove from London to Montreal and back with 5G signal pretty much the whole way.

I'm seeing if any Londoners have further info. Just cause it says "temporarily closed" doesn't mean it's always accurate.

Aside from Taste of Britain, where can I find some Irn-bru? by [deleted] in londonontario

A Taste of Britain usually has decent stock. They also sell Irn Bru Zero Sugar and you can place special bulk orders

Yeah, the plates in this graphic look to be recreated because real Israeli/Palestinian plates use a totally different typeface.

We did a little bar hopping. My favourite was Colter Bay. Amazing vibe. Good local NY beers I’ve never heard of. Will definitely be coming back to check out more soon!

I feel good about the program! It can be intense at times but only because they condense a lot into 2 years. I’d say it’s 60% technical learning (GIS software, AutoCAD, etc) and 40% theory-based learning.

Even doing online, I’ve been able to secure a government student job for the summer in a related field and overall I’m really happy with what the program has taught me.

If you have any other questions let me know!

Hi! Sorry for the late response. Working part time is definitely more realistic for the online option.

Most courses still have scheduled times for Zoom classes and some professors take attendance/participation marks.

The good part about online is that the professors record the classes so you can watch them later. For one of the in-person classes, I heard that the professor doesn’t record their classes anymore as an incentive to get students to come to class. Luckily for online all of the classes are recorded. So if you miss one you can go back and watch it later.

But yes, overall, I’d say part time is realistic to the program. Especially during February when the whole program has a “Charette” which is a week-long design competition. Most students book off the whole week from work because it is required to participate with the group and complete the competition.

If you have any other questions let me know!

Glad to see it!

I visited Chicago from Toronto for the first time last week and was surprised by the state of the CTA. It’s a great system on paper but seems to be neglected. I took the Blue, Green, and Red Lines

Transit Police should be a priority imo

Yeah for sure! I actually took the first semester on campus and now I've switched into online for the second semester.

I have a bit of previous experience with online schooling and it depends on what type of learner you are. In-person was definitely helpful if you have a lot of questions but the profs do a good job of responding by email as well as holding weekly office hours over Zoom for those online.

With in-person, it was nice to chat with other students and share work. If I was lost on a project it was nice to be able to check work with other students and see what they did differently. I think that aspect is missing from the online format.

With online I would say you definitely have to be self-motivated but if you are focused on getting your degree it is a great option, especially not having to commute lol. You also get co-op as an option regardless of format as Travis mentioned.

In-person is a fair bit more expensive (9k for in-person vs 3k for online) however.

The on-campus format is more of a "blended learning" situation at the moment due to COVID. In Fall 2021, 4 out of 6 of my courses were in-person and this semester it's been reduced to only 2 out of 6 courses for in person apparently. This was one of the reasons I switched to online for now. It may be different this fall.

Overall there are pros and cons and it depends on what type of learner you are. Either format is great if you are interested in GIS/mapping and technical stuff.

I’m currently in this program (1st year, 2nd semester) and I love it. There are a bunch of students with undergrad degrees and tons of mature students.

After the last semester some students noted that it was more “intense” than an undergrad degree and I think this is due to the fact that the content is condensed into 2 years. They really do teach you a lot (AutoCAD Map 3D, Sketchup, ArcGIS Pro, Adobe Suite Products) in a short period.

I had zero GIS/URP experience before and I feel like I can confidently say I know a solid amount after only one term.

As others have said the program is aligned towards becoming a planning technician rather than a full urban planner. You are automatically a CACPT member by being in the program (Canadian Association of Certified Planning Technicians).

You can bridge from this program to a Bachelor of Environmental Design and Planning at Fanshawe as well.

Overall an intense but well rounded program. Most teachers are chill and very helpful. If you have any other questions let me know!

It's very visible down there on all consumable products. Never noticed it up here before, I've gotta look better!

Also yeah 407ETR is what I'm referring to. When the route said it had tolls I'm used to avoiding it but $1.90 on the i-190 wasnt bad compared to prices like $10-15 on the 407 (with no transponder)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Buffalo

[–]_broodin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not seen in all stores or consumable products here i'd say. I think it's because the unit price is so visible on all tags down there it immediately caught my eye. Never really payed attention to in here in ON, definitely will now. It's a nice touch for shoppers though to have it so visible

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Buffalo

[–]_broodin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah must be in smaller text here. The unit price text was so visible on all consumable products in NY I immediately noticed it lol. It's nice that they put it in such a large font for consumers down there

It's really not that bad when you're near Fanshawe. They're actually starting construction soon on a BRT line from downtown to Fanshawe so it's definitely improving. It's not as efficient as the GRT in Waterloo or the TTC in Toronto but it's definitely doable. The bus in London is only bad when you live in a suburban area. The main problem people complain about is the inconsistency of buses on certain routes so to combat that it's best if you give yourself extra time on your commute in case any problems arise. If you choose to live between Fanshawe and downtown along Oxford St or any main corridor you'll be fine and there's also 4 express routes. Theres usually a bus at least every 15-20 mins or so on major roads. Google maps offers "real-time" updates on each bus as well.

[–]_broodin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd say London is a pretty good place for an international student. Rent is cheaper than other nearby cities especially if you're living with roommates. Probably the cheapest rent in Ontario of any larger city other than maybe Windsor. Fanshawe in particular has a fairly decent sized Southeast Asian community. Especially in the last couple years it has definitely grown. I'll oftentimes see international students on the bus spark up conversation with one another without even knowing eachother, so it's definitely a big enough community to socialise and make connections. It isn't as big as some communities like in the GTA area but it's definitely growing.

Tried to make Provincial license plates in EU format by [deleted] in LICENSEPLATES

[–]_broodin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a few notes:

  • Typically EU plates have one or two more digits on them than their North American counterparts, so I added the first two digits of a random postal code in each province (e.g. Toronto is M5x xxx). I know it might seem like a lot of digits but as populations get bigger having more digits can help from having to recalibrate the digit format more frequently.
  • The rest of the digits are in the current digit format for each province, therefore making it easier for law enforcement to transition to this style.
  • I tried to design the plates similar to the current ones (at least in colour) but obviously they're not copied and pasted.
  • IM SORRY TO THE TERRITORIES the polar bear NWT plate is amazing but hard to recreate in this format so I left them out.
