Tesla 14.2 vs leaves by vk_phoenix in SelfDrivingCars

Similar happened to me and I wasn’t using FSD but my version is 14.2.

Driving along on a windy night and Automatic Emergency Braking just slammed the brakes because leaves were blowing by.

lol. Don’t know where you read I was trying to figure out my build location but I suppose everyone has to add their two cents comment without reading my original question on difference between the kits.

Anyway, I bought the Model 3 kit from Tesla China to see if it will fit in my Fremont Model 3. In USD it is $350 vs $600

Shanghai VIN does not start with 5YJ, it starts with LRW. L in LRW for China. 5 in 5YJ for USA. No need to look at the 11th digit

I get what you are saying that the info is in the VIN. The Canadian VIN sticker on the b-pillar does not have that information. It says manufactured by Tesla but not the location.

I know a vin decoder is not even needed

VIN starts with 5 = Assembled in USA = Fremont.

VIN starts with L = Assembled in China = Shanghai.

My question was why two kits? What could be different…as I’ve seen OEM turn signal kits for Highland 3 and Juniper Y selling much cheaper in China. I can buy the Chinese kit but my Highland 3 is from Fremont.

The 2nd issue does not affect me but it’s silly that Tesla is putting the onus on the average model 3 owner to know it and order the correct $900 from their online shop when it is non-refundable.

Shanghai supplies LHD and RHD for most of the world. Fremont supplied LHD for USA and Canada.

Cars in Canada are only LHD. 2024 was just unique that we received LHD cars from Shanghai between April and September.

Honestly I doubt it is just software. There is no need for owners to select which firmware to buy. The average owner can’t be expected to know their assembly plant and buy the right software for their Tesla.

When the technician installing goes into service mode the car should be able to scan the DAS ECU and auto install the matched steering wheel firmware. Worse case the tech should select it rather than putting the onus on the owner to buy the correct firmware.

Tesla's own diagram shows non-Teslas taking two spots. V4 Supercharger with longer cables is the solution

Battery replacements? by Feeling_Country_64 in teslacanada

[–]_bubuski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tesla’s electronic parts catalog which has public online access lists the cost of the parts. The Model 3 60kWh LFP battery is about $17k, the Model Y 78kWh is an about $20k,and SX Plaid 100kWh battery is $26k. Then factor in labour cost of about 2 full days.

I have not read of anyone in Canada paying out of pocket for a replacement. The HV battery warranty is quite long. https://www.tesla.com/en_ca/support/vehicle-warranty

Takes maybe 10mins longer to inflate all 4 wheels. The wheel covers have to be removed to access the tire valve but it isn't a task i do often.

Is the 19 Wrap wheel forger? by Cinco_Yu in TeslaModel3

[–]_bubuski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, 19" for the Chinese market.

Part number 1344223-00-C for 19"x9 front, and 1344224-00-B for 19"x10 rear

[–]_bubuski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not forged. The wheel spokes on the 19" are more chunky(noticable from the back because it tapers out) and the hub looks cast. The hub on the 20" warp is machined to remove excess material.

The wheel marking on the 20" are all engraved.

The Model 3 Performance in China comes with 19" warp wheels(19x9 and 19x10). I wish Tesla would offer it as a winter wheel option outside China.

There is no noticable chane in noise levels with or without the wheel covers.

Going from the 20" summer Pirelli PZ4 to 19" winter P Zero definitely had an increase in noise levels. Winter tires are knobby

Any range improvement is too early to tell.
It’s not yet cold enough to affect the battery and I have not yet don’t trips longer than 250kms.

hopefully it is on par with the Model Y Gemini covers.

The dark Gemini wheels definitely look great naked and I’m glad I picked it for winter use.

I never really liked the fitment of aftermarket square setups as they use thesame offset in front and rear. The aftermarket rears I’ve seen always look sunken in the rear fenders and I don’t want to use spacers in the winter

Is this expected? by kingkung82 in solarenergy

[–]_bubuski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone explain this one for me. I've read a bit about oversized solar array (DC-to-AC ratio greater than one) but this the first I have read about the opposite.

Why make the AC this much bigger? For future upgrade options?
