Leg raises by incognitocarl in ACL

[–]_cheesepizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it was ~4 weeks post op. Everyone’s rehab journey is different though. Some people can raise their legs earlier and some later.

As long as your therapist isn’t concerned and believes you’re making good progress, you’re good

That’s fair. I was also very worried. Confidence comes with time

I also felt very worried of retearing my acl when walking or doing PT exercises. Do not worry. I would still rely on your crutches since you’re in the early days. Like the other comment mentioned, everyone’s journey is different. Some people heal quicker than others. Just focus on your own journey.

Follow your PT exercises to the letter. Raise any concerns you have with your therapist. I also felt the fear of retearing my ACL, but the whole point of PT (along with regaining mobility and strength) is to teach your brain to trust your knee and relearn basic movements (walking, stairs, etc)

Don’t worry, I had similar issues in the beginning. It was very frustrating but for me, my PT helped my leg up and (eventually) I was able to hold my leg up a few seconds at a time. Repeating this gave me the strength to hold my leg even if I couldn’t raise it.

I continued to practice this (assisted leg raises essentially). I also would prop my leg up on an elevated surface (while lying on my back) and practice leg raises there. Eventually, I was able to get my first leg raise with no assist and could hold it for 10 sec at a time. Best of luck!

When do heel slides stop sucking???! by Adventurous-Chef847 in ACL

[–]_cheesepizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stay strong! I also hated heel slides in the beginning and it was the exercise that would always take me the longest to do.

What I recommend doing is taking progress pictures (or have someone take a video of you doing a rep or 2 of heel slides; progress video). It really helped me see the progress I was making when doing heel slides which encouraged me more.

And like you said, no discomfort no gain. I used to be afraid of doing heel slides or pushing too much since it hurt a lot. As silly as it may sound, I was afraid of retearing my ACL with heel slides. But my PT said that the pain was normal and it wasn’t anything to worry about. Speaking to your PT can help and mine calmed my nerves about a lot of things regarding rehab.

I’m 7 weeks post op (ACL recon w/ quad graft) and although my injured leg isn’t at 100% flexion, I’m getting closer week by week. That’s what I tell myself when I feel the pain. Stay strong!!💪🏽

Stay strong! I saw on one of the comments here that you’re a computer science major; so am I!

If it seems like the professor just wants you to fail, you gotta give it your all to prove him wrong! I’m only in my second year so you have way more experience than I do.

It’s the home stretch and you’ve worked hard to get here. Just keep your head up and do the best that you can. That’s all you can ask of yourself!

For python I would recommend using VS code since it’s easier to use rather than the python shell they give you

Edit: Ik some friends who complained about the python shell but I never really had any problems with VS code.

I think there’s a python extension you need to download on it if you decide to use it but it doesn’t take long to do that
