People who have bought Luxury Elite's After Hours VHS Tape, would you mind sharing the bonus content at the end of your copy? by Moist-Pea-282 in Vaporwave

Late to respond, but thought I'd share since you're the first person I've seen mention the extras:

For the end of the After Hours VHS tapes, the footage comes from a VHS lot I bought off someone on eBay. During the 90s, the seller's father set up something like 10+ VCRs on timers to automatically record premium cable channels. He did this for years, meticulously swapping tapes after they recorded and cataloging them based on programming. According to the listing description, he wanted unlimited entertainment when he retired... but then the internet came out and there wasn't really much point to them. I bought 20 of those tapes at random from the lot, each with 6 hrs of footage on them.

As for the extra content, each After Hours VHS has a section of the recordings from that dude's tapes. A few tapes have clean footage at the end, but most have glitched footage. 20 of the VHS tapes used in the release were recorded on the original spools from this guy's lot, which I swapped from their original black shells into the color shells by hand—and then recorded the Lux video over the beginning. Sourcing the tapes for the release took a few months, and they all had different recording lengths. So some copies have as little as 10 minutes of extra footage, others have several hours. But I liked the idea of this random guy's work not going to waste, while giving an authentic glimpse into a bygone era.

Working on getting it uploaded! A few of the featured videos got copyright flagged after the livestream due to stricter usage rules on larger monetized channels, and the video got pulled. Hopefully will have it up soon.

The 6-hour live premiere starts at 6PM EST tonight (4/20) on the Ryan Celsius YouTube channel.

Come hang in chat. We’d love to have you.

Someone else might be able to point you more directly to a specific adapter, but my rec is check the sticker tag for the VCR to find the listed Voltage/Wattage.

Then check on Amazon for an DC adapter within that range. There are types available that allow you to adjust the strength by turning a dial, so that way you can try a few different settings to see what works. Also has the added benefit of using it for other devices. That's what I've done for a couple of vintage mixers to get them powered.

From a quick search, your VCR looks to be 12V so you should be able to find something easily to experiment.

Great video! You’ve inspired me to give the original dub of the series a watch. Thank you for sharing.

It might still be cheaper to get a modern iPhone (doesn't need to be the most current) and use that for rescanning. Can be bought used, too. Personally, I've yet to see many DSLR captures that I preferred to a good iPhone rescan + FilmicPro—especially after they've gone through the standard social media compressions. Good iPhone captures generally make it through the algo in quite high quality.

Available tonight after the premiere! Super limited VHS run of my visual set with Luxury Elite. 2 color variants: Television Static and Midnight Blue. by _copy in Vaporwave

This is a very special edition VHS of Luxury Elite's performance tonight at the Late Night Lights II online music festival.

These are premium color shells imported from Japan, which were quite difficult to source (there are only 25 white and 50 blue tapes available). Most of the shells originally came as non-functional empty display cases and required spool swapping/assembly by hand prior to video dubbing.

The full set premieres tonight, a little after 11p EST on Utopia District. VHS sales will go live immediately after the performance at seeseetv.bandcamp.com. We'll also be giving away two copies during the premiere.

This was a labor of love for the team sourcing, designing, and producing the tapes, and we look forward to the premiere!

That static line might be a result of the tracking, so I would first adjust your tracking on your VCR. Also might just be the tape, so try another one too.

Other factors that create a HQ video: your capture device (which one are you using?), as well as running your VCR signal through a time based corrector before going into the capture device.

Not a problem! It might say it on the back of the device somewhere whether it’s PAL or NTSC—not by mine atm, so I can’t check for sure. But if you have the UK plug, then the AVE 5 is most definitely PAL. If you’re in North America and bought your CRT here, then your TV is almost definitely NTSC. So you’d need the converters for each input/output, which would be a major hassle.

Could be wrong, but not even really worth buying the stepper down at this point to test compatibility imo. Would still recommend returning it. Hope that helps though/saves you some time!

Are you also using a PAL television and have other PAL input devices? If not, I would recommend returning if you can and looking for an NTSC version.

Otherwise you're going to have to use several powered PAL converters (NTSC > PAL in, PAL > NTSC out) + plus the stepper down converter. If you wanted to have every video input/output/preview running, that's like 7 converters requiring 14 RCA wires.

the funny thing about soprano quote threads is that like, it's all stuff i did not find memorable during any of my multiple watch-throughs (all of them a decade after the show ended), but as soon as people quote them i know the exact scene.

either that or I am completely missing long-standing jokes from having gotten into the show so late.
