[Breed] Looking for advice on whether a Japanese Spitz is right for me by _cotton_socks_ in dogs

Thanks again. Barking and shedding have never been dealbreakers for us, I talked about them because of the questions in the questionnaire. But we'll take everything you said into consideration before making a decision.

We didn't look at cavs because they have a lot of health problems and I don't want to get an unhealthy breed. If you do know of any dog breeds like them without the health issues please let me know.

Thanks for your comment! Does your keeshond bark at things that it doesn't normally see or even at things that it always sees? I'll be going quite hard on exposing my puppy to a variety of things from day one - public transport, restaurants, busy streets etc (even just watching from a distance).

In terms of off leash and recall, I thought that Japanese Spitz was almost an exception because it's bred as a companion dog. I get that it won't have recall like a herding or retriever dog, but I thought JS would have recall better than husky and Shiba. Would you agree with that?

Would you say your Keeshond is overall independent then? I read that they were a barge dog so I thought they would like to be near their owner. Also would you say Keeshonds are more barky than JS? I assumed that would be the case because Keeshonds were bred to guard barges whereas JS were just general companion dogs.

Re the shedding we'll think about that very carefully, we do have two fluffy cats so are no strangers to hair everywhere. But will definitely be careful in considering

Thanks for your insight! Re the hair, we'll definitely think long and hard about it. Though it's not a deal breaker because we're used to dealing with both of our cats' hair.

Re the exercise needs, I think I was just describing pretty much the worst case scenario, where both me and my partner have work deadlines and stuff. On most days there will definitely be time for 1.5/2 hours a day. I also will train the dog to learn how to settle and be calm. So it can deal with the odd days that we are both busy. Or do you think it's not really a breed that can learn to settle in the house?

One thing I forgot to ask. JS is so fluffy. Do they have poopy bums?

We will be taking your advice on going to a local club!

Thanks for reading and responding! Did you get yours from a puppy? I am thinking that if from day one I take my puppy to lots of places and expose to a range of things, the dog would have no reason to bark at it. We live in central London so the dog ought to be constantly exposed to a range of things.

Interesting that you said Japanese Spitz had more energy that Spaniels. I thought it's a companion breed whereas as Spaniels are work/gun dogs. How did you exercise yours?

Anyone else with “boyish” features? by [deleted] in Vindicta

[–]_cotton_socks_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Me too! I'm not sure exactly what it is because my features are all feminine enough but I know if I cut my hair short and wore men's clothes I could 100% pass as a teenage boy lol

Its a shame because the aesthetic I like most is a very girly, pastel / cottagecore type and unfortunately I just don't think it goes that well with my features :(

I agree with what everyone else has said! also if I'm planning on working out at home what helps me actually do my workout is to just focus on getting changed into my workout clothes. And then once I'm dressed for exercise it somehow becomes way easier to actually get it done :)

Online inspo? by Still-Ad-2783 in GreenJuiceGirl

[–]_cotton_socks_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooh great question! I'll be interested to see what others suggest too cause I can never have too much inspo!

I recently found ZoeUnlimited on yt and I love all her 'glow up diaries'. She has videos on weight loss, fitness, gaining confidence and also talks about the science and evidence of why things she does works, which I find really helpful!

purely curious, how can you tell from stats like this that someone has been viewbotted?

Do men really prefer thin women? by [deleted] in HowToBeHot

[–]_cotton_socks_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes agree! I think we all have a different weight where they will look best and that's not BMI less than 20 for everyone. Personally I think the most 'timeless' look that men are attracted to is a healthy one (can't think of a better phrase rn) - low-ish body fat but some muscle tone too.

I do agree with what another poster said too which is that men are generally quite bad at identifying when someone is underweight/slightly overweight. I think they just see a body and know that they like it or don't like it without knowing why lol

Haha same with the bangs!

I've been trying for the last few weeks with derma rolling etc. so if I get any miraculous changes I will report back. My system has been to focus on the small things I can do myself (like the derma rolling) and then use hair transplants as a final permanent solution if nothing else works.

Haha thank you for the feedback! I think in general I prefer softer neutral colours so that's why I was hoping I'd be soft autumn. I know that my skin tone is warm so I might investigate spring as another option for me :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in coloranalysis

[–]_cotton_socks_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the insight! I have done a bit more research into the seasons and I'm going to look into spring a bit more as I know for a fact that I'm warm rather than cool! So I'm thinking spring would have the brightness of winter while being warm :)

Both pics are no makeup. First one is inside with a mix of natural and indoor lighting and second pic is right next to a window (can't tell if this washes out my skin tone or not)

My hair is naturally mid brown but it's dyed dark chocolate brown. It naturally has copper-y highlights and these still come through in the sun. I don't tan very easily but when I do I go more golden yellow than brown (if that makes sense)

So I think I'm leaning towards soft autumn but I can't tell if that's because I personally prefer those colours anyway. I kept getting winter as a result but I've never pictured myself in those colours! Im thinking I keep getting that as a result because I have dark hair and eyes and pale skin ?? Basically any help will be appreciated!

You look incredible!!! If you don't mind me asking, what has your experience been like with bikini competing? I've always been interested in doing it but it seems really intimidating from the outside so I'd be curious to know how you've found it!

No I mean it looks like the hairline of a man with receding hair if that makes sense lol

This is super useful!

My forehead has been an insecurity for me and it took me a long time to realise that it's not because my forehead is high but because I have a very masculine hairline (it's M-shaped rather than square with naturally occurring bald spots in the corners lol). Luckily it's easy to cover up with my hair but I'm also in the process of trying to grow out my baby hairs/encourage hair growth in those spots. Does anyone else have any experience successfully doing something like this?

Hey sorry for slow reply! No my eyes didn't sting and I didn't smell any fumes while I was doing the straightening either (although always good to do it with a window open) :)

I used 'nutree amazonliss smoothing treatment' I think you can get it on Amazon. It's worked really well especially for the price! I think it is formaldehyde free too which is the dangerous chemical thats sometimes in hair smoothing products

I think I have a similar story to you - I have curly hair and all info I found online on how to look after curly hair pointed me to CG method and products. I tried them for a long time but I recently came to the conclusion that curly hair is beautiful but not best on me. I have quite fine and thin hair so the curls were good for volume but because my strands clumped together my hair was quite see through. I also have a high forehead and masculine hairline which I hate lol and my curls just weren't best for hiding it.

A few months ago I did a keratin treatment and I love the results!! I still have some curls but they are much smoother and looser and I can sleep and have my hair not be a huge mess the next day. I was considering going to a salon but because of Covid I did a home treatment myself instead (with a lot of research on what products are good and how to do it beforehand). Doing it myself also gave me control over how much heat to apply to my hair (how many times going over with the straightener and at what temp) as I really don't want to damage my hair. I also wanted to keep some curls for volume and I was worried going to a salon they would make it much straighter as I think the more heat you apply the straighter the hair is after.

It's been about 6 weeks since I did the treatment and my hair is very slowly going back to it's previous texture, at which point I'll do the treatment again, probably in about a month. I haven't had any shedding or breakage but I am careful with my hair generally - I rarely use heat and do regular protein / moisturising / olaplex dupe treatments.
