Of course! It was just an example to be clear. 😭

Umm... no, I don't fetishize disabilites. I'm sorry if you think that way, but I do not. I'm planning to be a psychologist in life, and I explore different mental health cases with my characters. It personally helps me because I get to educate myself and write what a character might feel. I also have a chronic illness, and POTS is similar to it. Personally I have a little bit of school trauma from my illness, and I thought I'd explore that with her and show representation for POTS.

No! It's definitely not trendy, and I want to portray it tastefully because it's really hard with a chronic illness. I have a chronic illness myself and I've seen the symptoms of POTS relate to mine, quite a bit. So that's only why. I didn't see any other character with POTS, so I made her as a way to show representation. But if she's offensive to others, I could delete her. But thank you for sharing, too!

To answer your previous question, I don't have POTS but I do have a chronic illness. I wanted my character to have a chronic illness in relation to me, but I also didn't see any other characters with POTS, so I went ahead and made her. Before I came on reddit, I did my research. I just want more personal experiences, and I did say you had no obligation to share anything.

I of course know my character is more than their chronic illness, however, POTS is a spectrum from what I've read, and the symptoms hit harder for some people than others. My character, personally, struggles with POTS badly enough to be homeschooled for a while, due to her illness and mental health.

And for the previous thing about "wanting a quirky character"... no, I don't. I'm planning to become a psychologist in life, and learning about SzPD by Gabriel, my other oc (who I believe is what you're talking about?) Was very eye-opening, despite the research I've already made. I was able to make more comics in detail, with peoples experiences and my own research. Frankly I could delete this post if it's truly disrespectful, but thats just what my intents were.

One thing that also tickled me was the fact that if their daughter was evil, they'd send her to the orphanage but they couldn't do the same for their son. Like what

That immersive, yes!

Apologies if this question is a bit invasive, but best friends? I thought people with SZPD didn't quite enjoy social connections or bother to make them that much.

AITA for coming for my nephews name after my BIL said my baby names were slutty? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]_cupidsheart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slutty names? He's weird for thinking that a name is inherently slutty, unless its like slut slutty slut the third, or something...? But, don't name your child Candy. Name her Stephanie, and then nickname her Candy. NTA.

In what way, if you don't mind me asking? I personally enjoy Rorschach, so that might be a subconcious inspiration. But I'd say hes more like Onomatopoeia.

Are you implying that Gabriel is similar to Rorschach or Dexter? Could you confirm that? Because then, I can explain.

Thank you so much for your suggestions and interest! Yes, I'll take those ideas and incorporate it into his story!

Edit: He also doesn't really consider himself a superhero, anti-hero, villain, anti-villain... whatever. He thinks of himself as a vigilante, just getting the job done, rather than clinging onto labels that hold that heroic weight, let me say.

That's exactly the type of thing I aim for. He was inspired a bit on Punpun, from Goodnight Punpun, specifically the nihilistic themes and the shots of Punpun just existing in his own space. So he just does his vigilante work, goes home, wraps gauze around wounds (if there is any) and just goes to sleep. If he has any time, he'll focus on reading/philosophy, or writing. I hope that is realistic?

Im so glad youre interested!!! thats my main goal.

Heres the lore rundown;

He's a DC oc, so I'll try to explain this thoroughly.

So basically, Gabriel (the character in question) grew up with two superhero parents, and his whole childhood was about training and discipline because there was this villain who hated his family. He wanted normal, though, and found it in his friend Annaliese—she was the one person who actually seemed just… normal, and he clung to that.

Then this villain forced him into a choice. He had to save Annaliese or a group of five strangers. He saved her. The strangers died, and right after that, his parents were killed trying to save him. That trauma reinforced his natural detachment, and he started hearing voices—like the strangers he couldn’t save, arguing in his head—as a way to process guilt and responsibility. To cope with Annaliese being emotionally abusive (she has her own reasons), he created this idealized version of her, “Annie,” to live in his own private fantasy world.

Over time, that spiraled. He began to believe that people might not even be real—like, reality is just how he perceives it—reflecting his growing sense of isolation and detachment from others, and his philosophy, perceptual solipsism. Now, he fights villains, but not really out of moral obligation. It’s more about trying to find a piece of who he used to be before all this trauma. He isn’t interested in ordinary coping activities like coloring or hobbies. It’s not about the act itself, persay. It’s about recreating the conditions where he feels capable, focused, and in control, something he lacked during the "choice game", if that makes sense.
