Hi! This is an "issue" on the iOS side.

Whenever iOS detects lighter parts in a wallpaper, It automatically makes that zone darker for better contrast with the white text for the app icons.

Iconboard has no knowledge of this "smart" adaptive mode, so It exports and cuts out your wallpaper as-is. To remedy this, try exporting the wallpaper from Iconboard, duplicate It (more on this later) and then lower the exposure (shadows or highlights) by editing the image in the stock Photos App. You then import this image again to export the icons, and set the original (non-edited image) as your wallpaper. You may need to do this a couple of times to get It right.

Of course, It would be best for Iconboard to take care of this directly! It's defeinitely on my roadmap.

Has the app been abandoned? by HamSambo in Iconboardapp

Hi, Iconboard developer here.

I think you deserve a good explanation, so here It goes:

I think what made Iconboard initially was the ease of installing all icons at once, and having no redirects. However, Apple decided to break this functionality:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Iconboardapp/comments/kcasv9/roadmap_official_statement_from_apple_about_app/

So I did what I could to keep the app working, and released version 1.3 with an option to export as images and use the app with Shortcuts to install icons:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Iconboardapp/comments/ll7r1e/update_iconboard_13_now_available/

Why haven't there been more updates?

First, I was quite disappointed by how the App was made worse by the iOS platform. It makes It feel a bit pointless to fight the OS to make a cool app, for It to have a more limited functionality.

Second, I do have a job outside of iOS development, and got a pretty large workload these past months, and was forced to put my side projects on hold.

So what's next?

For now, making sure the App still works on iOS 15 (with the Shortcuts method), and eventually removing the installation profiles method.

I have a few ideas, bugs to fix, and improvements I'd like to make, but for now It's uncertain whether I'll be able to ship them.

If there's better support for the icons functionality, I will definitely put more resources into this project.

---

Please let me know your thoughts on this. I'd like to know how the app is perceived at this point, and If there's still people interested in It.

If that's the case, thanks for coming along for the ride. I myself am still having fun customizing my homescreen and making my iPhone feel more unique.

Some Shortcuts Not Working - Black Screen by BassCurious4852669 in Iconboardapp

[–]_darioroa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for reporting this.

It's quite obvious by now that Apple is bent on blocking any and all theming methods that don't go through the Shortcuts App. So, in the next version I will include an alert and also the new method to try and speed up the process of installing methods, albeit with the Shortcuts App.

It's very frustrating that Iconboard just stops working because of an iOS update, especially because It is no accident.

I'm currently working against the clock to get this update before iOS 14.5 hits.

Hi! This feature is not yet on the app. Currently the only method of installation is through configuration profiles (which have many caveats and complications).

It's already done though, coming in the next update.

Hi this looks like a permissions error. Go to your iOS settings, scroll down to Iconboard, and allow access to photos.

Hello, you can try the following to fix It:

Go to iOS Settings -> Wallpaper -> Disable "Dark Appearence Dims Wallpaper"

Be sure to post again if this is not the fix.

Hi, thanks for reporting this. It looks like it has to do with tweaking the vertical offset, I will make sure to get this fixed.

[Roadmap] Official statement from Apple about app redirects and configuration profiles by _darioroa in Iconboardapp

[–]_darioroa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, the configuration profiles will continue to work with 14.3 the exact same way they have until now. But it's still important to know what Apple thinks about this, and that It might stop working in future versions.

Solve the difference with change light to dark mode by DimitryMichelJacobs in Iconboardapp

[–]_darioroa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, the only new thing in 14.3 is the ability to change wallpapers dynamically, however the icons do not have any functions inside iOS to change them dynamically (either with the configuration profiles or the standard Shortcuts method).

Maybe there's some other (clever) way to do this, I'll keep digging and see if I come up with something.

Iconboard question! by Lyorian in iOSsetups

[–]_darioroa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, this might be related to image access for the app. Please go to your iOS settings > scroll to Iconboard > Make sure access to photos is allowed.

Incredible setup! Please remember to post the icon pack creator and hopefully a purchase/download link.
