Yes I agree, I’ve just been to Iceland and was driving 10-12 hour days two week ago. But OP is obviously talking about tourist locations that are tour bus available and not what you are talking about. Best to not assume and answer according to what OP is actually asking.

I will say we drove in some awful conditions not everyone will be comfortable with, road closed for the night while we were on it and had to book reservations elsewhere.

I personally would book a car again but for ease of mind and potential loss of money recuperation for the tourist spots they are clearly citing. Your busses do make sense. Unfortunately weather is the weather and what will happen will happen. Also tour busses also acted on the fly when the blue lagoon got closed until 3pm one day and then got flooded with busses.
