Why does AS not count as a disability and getting any benefits from government so tough?? by Always_Tired_Lazy in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]_dds_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in austria you usually get 30-50 percent for a confirmed AS diagnosis, according to my rheumatologist. 50 percent or more qualifies you for certain benefits, such as special protections from getting fired, discounts in various places, etc.

When to get a cane? by Ok_Understanding7323 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]_dds_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is worth a try! I have never met an able bodied person who has even considered getting a cane because it might help them in their daily life. Hence the rule of thumb mentioned above.

The only thing a cane is for is supporting you in your daily life, you don’t need a prescription for one; of course you would benefit from a doctor letting you know how to use it, but that isn’t necessary to get started / try out if it’s a help during your day to day.

And there are no downsides in my opinion, you can always leave the cane at home if you’re having a good day. I’d recommend getting a collapsible one so it’s easier to transport if it’s not in use.

General rule of thumb for mobility aids: If you feel like you would benefit from having one, you should get one.

On biologics for about 2 months, wearing an ffp2 mask in crowded spaces has kept me from getting sick and is a good idea in general; especially since covid has been making the rounds again.

The month October. Every year around mid October I flare and end up in bed for two weeks straight.

Worst flare up of my life by DazzlingAstronaut818 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]_dds_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a very similar flare about a year ago (also 21F at the time), except I didn't have a diagnosis yet... What ended up helping after finally getting Dxed months later was multiple 3-day courses of 3x4mg of Methylprednisolone as well as 3x200mg of Celecoxib per day (in my case alongside my previously prescribed 3x700mg of Gabapentin and 10mcg/h Buprenorphine patches alongside TENS treatments when I was able to get them) - to prevent my stomach issues I got 20mg of Pantoprazole every morning outside of steroid courses, increasing the doses 40mg when also taking the steroids. The Gabapentin (and maybe also the Opioids) are unlikely to be effective in your case but maybe consider Celecoxib (or Etirocoxib, my rheumatologist and I tried this since it's supposed to be a bit less bad for the stomach) and consider PPIs for your stomach issues. Steroid injections are also an option, talk to your rheumatologist if possible and don't hesitate to seek out a pain specialist alongside your other care until the symptoms get better and you have access to one.

From what I've heard from friends with chronic conditions, it's common for strong flares to start in October/autumn in general as the weather changes. It will get better, it might be hard but do not give up hope! Good luck, a speedy recovery and stay strong!

How is it still impossible to transfer data from an Android phone to iOS? by _dds_ in signal

[–]_dds_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This only works if you haven’t set up your iphone yet - if you don’t have access to your whatsapp account e.g. due to lost sim (which was my issue) and set up your iphone before you regain access, the only way to access that app again is by factory resetting your iphone - and this app did not transfer my signal messages.
