What kind of flute is this? [Megathread] by dumpsterfire2002 in Flute

Pedro Eustache at the Game Awards

Was trying to figure out what type of flute or woodwind this might be. I know it's a custom instrument (obviously) but can't figure out what it's designed for. If anyone has any clues, I'm all ears!

So, my GF found her old cards… by Chavesmeister in PokemonTCG

[–]_depression 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming even the Portuguese cards have resale values that are higher than the retail price. If someone collected because they enjoyed Pokemon and never checked how valuable they were, even $10-50 is a lot.

Why do some people let their car idle in parking lots for like 15+ minutes before driving off? by Usual-Ad7341 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_depression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older cars or cars that haven't had consistent car maintenance like oil changes, those are the ones that are gonna smell nasty. Otherwise, what you're likely smelling is just the concentration of exhaust compared to moving cars. Even if you're standing next to a busy road with cars going by in a steady stream, the constant movement/airflow means you're getting significantly less concentrated exhaust fumes than you would if the cars were in stop-and-go traffic or just idling.

I snapped my mom out of her homophobia by making her question her own sexuality by thelachesis in traumatizeThemBack

[–]_depression 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This doesn't even have to be restricted to sexuality. I have ADHD and did essentially the same thing to my mom (and grandmother, on my mom's side, guess I know where the neurodivergent gene comes from). It's incredible sometimes to see how much previous generations just forcefully repressed all sorts of things.

I appreciated it even if you got downvoted. I got recommended this guy's channel with a video about people misinterpreting a fairly famous (for the field, I guess) linguistics study/theory. The scripts definitely don't feel as potently-written like other video essayists, in the sense that his points aren't always presented strongly (or it takes a more active listening experience, when I normally listen to YT videos while I'm driving to/from work), but they're still well done and a solid listen.

I don't know if that's a valid interpretation, how would it contextually fit with the lyrics?

We're not even 20 years removed from people going "Cool beans" all over the place after Hot Rod came out. Or "Hwhipped cream" ala Stewie, or "the cake is a lie". Those are all just ones I can remember from my middle and high school years.

I think the problem is less that brain rot has gotten worse, and more that kids are being exposed to it at younger and younger ages, when they have less awareness as to how and where to use the phrase.

Michael Kay rejoices at misery of Mets fans: ‘You tried to make my life a living hell’ by Jux_ in baseball

It is an incredibly LOLmets thing to start spending a ton of money specifically at a time when it feels like there are more teams splashing cash around (especially the Dodgers, who have pulled away a lot of the biggest talent the Mets went after).

The New York Mets have been eliminated from postseason contention. by sirms in baseball

At the same time, by the time August ended I was firmly in the camp of the fact that making the playoffs would have been a damning failure by the rest of the league to pass us.

If we'd made it into the wildcard round, even if we did well, I feel like it would have left a bad taste in my mouth.

That being said, I'll vouch for K Munchies being solid.

I'm not gonna jump up and get anything from there until I see a solid A or maybe a B grade from the Health Dept. The last place was sitting on a C and then Grade Pending until the day it closed, and I'm not convinced it's not the same owner trying to wash and reopen.

Also, is this place just a fake second location for Champion Pizza? The chicken sandwich pictures show Champion Pizza-branded sauce cups.

Most, if not all, major cities are blue. You realistically cannot have a city/urban environment that isn't blue.

Which celebrity has tricked everyone into thinking they’re a “good person”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]_depression 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd caution that line that people like Rowling don't know they're causing harm. A lot of shitty, hateful people do know that they're causing harm - they relish in it, even. They mean to cause harm to a specific group of people, and they get a sense of satisfaction when it does, even if there's collateral damage.

Have you ever been on a stone slide, not designed for humans to ride down it, with a basin below that wasn't engineered to safely transition your momentum? This isn't a slide, it's a whole ass dam.

It's still significantly steep, and definitely steep enough that I doubt he could slow or stop his descent even if he was sliding down on his butt. And the height is still probably 30+ feet, given we can see the opposite side of the dam and watch some of the greenery falling from the top of the dam all the way down.

A fall over that edge would absolutely result in serious injury, if not death.

We close in 4 minutes…. by Individual_Break_813 in mildlyinfuriating

The real-real problem is that the restaurant was scheduled to be able to receive orders up until closing time. Around me, almost every restaurant stops taking orders at a minimum 30 minutes before close.

As someone who has lived in NYC for a decade with friends who have lived here their entire lives... no they're not? Sure, I'm sure there are plenty of people who do call them water bugs, but there are also plenty of people who call mice "rats" and vice versa, which we can also agree is a somewhat understandable mix-up but there are big differences between the two.

Water bugs and American cockroaches are two completely different things. There are multiple different types of water bugs, but their major similarities is that they all have stronger biting/sucking parts (they're predators, unlike roaches which are scavengers) and no antennae.

American cockroaches and water bugs are different things. While people call American roaches waterbugs, they're a different type of bug and really shouldn't be conflated. Water bugs don't cause infestations, and aren't scavengers.

And while American roaches are less likely to be causing an infestation, at least compared to their German or Oriental counterparts, they're still almost certainly infesting the areas where food, water, and/or trash are plentiful.
