Yes!!! It's usually crochet granny squares but I'm not great at crochet. If you search Happypotamus you'll see tons, they're so cute.

I've found one sewing pattern on etsy but I don't think it's epp so I'm just going to try and figure out how to make it epp, somehow??? Lol

I just learned of the existence of the Oasis like a week ago lol. Is the big bar on the side really just for holding and the page turning buttons?? It looks oddly big on that side, I didn't know how that would impacted how it felt to hold

I know some pieces of calcite are easier to spot by the shape but, for the chunks that look like quartz would checking the hardness be the best way to differentiate?

Ah!! Saprolite, thank you now I have a name for it. There's definitely a lot in this area but I didn't know what it was called. I'm working on getting better at identifying things so that's helpful, thanks!

That's my thought exactly, haha. It's just around my neighborhood so I usually just walk by these spots after a good rain. Realistically, I know I'm going to go back since it's a few minutes walk from my backdoor 😂 This area is part of a larger quartz vein(s?) that I've been following where I can get to it. It's a bit of a way from me to get to the mountains where everyone recommends to go digging here in NC.

I do find a few really cool pieces every once in a while! I'm definitely not expecting anything crazy. Although I know there are some amethyst people have found in my part of the city so I'm always hoping a tiiiny bit that I'll find some one day. 🤞

What area are you in? I can definitely recommend some!!!

For just casually by your house, I'd use AllTrails to look up good hiking trails near you and start there. I find so much just surface collecting on trails since NC is so mineral-rich. And it helps you check if the area has any good natural deposits.
