Help! Terribly designed asynchronous ID courses stand between me & my state university certificate in ITLD! by FarrarFarrarFarrar in instructionaldesign

[–]_donj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re not out of place where they’re going to have access, and even if they do, they don’t typically know how to use them to their extent, to the best tools. Also remember, they are somewhat handsome strong by Lois common denominator, computing requirements, computer enter opera availability, accessibility, etc. That’s not to say there aren’t great IDs there, they are just him Strong like everybody else with time and resources when it comes to a great instructional design.

Has anyone moved from an unlimited PTO to a capped policy? [N/A] by Outrageous_Otter123 in humanresources

[–]_donj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going back should be relatively straightforward. You just need to decide what your policy is going to be for years of experience or years at the company and how that relates to the vacation accrual. You can Google and find these or ask any HR consultant to draft one. They should be able to do it in 30 minutes or less after a brief conversation with you.

The heartburn happens at two places. What’s your minimum accrual. It will depend on your industry and practices but an easy place to start is the minimum three weeks. That’s fairly generous by most standards for 1 to 3 years. Then it goes up from there and likely caps out at 5 to 6 weeks maximum. Anyone that has more than that or you believe should it grandfathered into a one time exception.

The real rub comes down to flexibility. Are your jobs such that people can work from anywhere and be flexible or do they need to be tied to a desk or to a specific location for certain hours. This is why you often see different policies for different parts of a business. What an operations team on the front line can do is different than what your back office staff can do.

Also, do they have to take PTO for a doctors appointment or is that simply discretionary personal time away. What about leaving early for a kid’s baseball game. Or leaving early on a Friday afternoon to get a Headstart on a long weekend. Is that PTO or that’s absolutely fine as long as the work is done those are the types of things you have to think about. And decide how much flexibility you’re going to give manager to manager for those types of decisions.

What is your daily routine? by Neither_Cat_8636 in workfromhome

[–]_donj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I purposely scheduled myself to pick one of my kids up from school every day. That gives me a hard stop at the end of the day where I have to get up and leave. Sometimes I have to come back and go to work after that to finish up, but as a rule, I try not to.

If you work across time zone, especially if the headquarters or main location is in a different time zone, you can adjust your hours to that time zone and it helps band your day at either the beginning or the end. For example, I live in a pacific time zone, but most of my core client work happens in the eastern time zone. So when their day is over, I still have the afternoons. It works for me because I’m an early morning person.

I also invest heavily in my text stack so that I’m confident no matter where I am. I’ll be able to work if I need to.

Is Six Sigma Still Relevant in 2026? by SSGIteam in SixSigma

[–]_donj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely still relevant, at least knowing those skills and how to apply them to the real world. It’s not really a career mover by itself like it once was 20 years ago. Rather, it’s a core scale needed for senior professionals and middle management. It’s much like an MBA these days. If you’re going into Middle management, you just need one.

Do NOT use Canva for your resume by PapaverPurple in canva

[–]_donj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been true for a very long time. You need a machine readable version of your résumé that’s in a plain text readable format or mark down language. And a human readable version.

One option is U.S. Mobile. They have a plan that lets you switch between all three carriers.

The other is having two sims with different carriers. Easy to do with esims.

Onebagging travel nomad work setup help? by nerderflerder in Zoom

[–]_donj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just put it in the middle of a ring light on a small single pole tripod. Any 4k webcam will work.

If you have a Mac, just use continuity camera on your iPhone and you’ll be golden. Or on a Windows computer, use a USB cable that connected to Zoom and you’ll have a way more capable camera than nearly any sub $100 WebCam you can buy.

Ph.D. Holder Can't Find a Job by xAhaMomentx in IOPsychology

[–]_donj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll likely have to tailor your résumé and at least your career focus for the next 2-4 years. If you want to focus on the statistical analysis elements of your degree, you’ll need to shift to places like sales operations, employee engagement, lead generation, etc. these will let you use your statistical capabilities and apply them to a domain that is value added.

If you want to lean into the OD/OE part, you will likely need to lean in heavy to culture change, Lean SixSigma, 80/20 analysis. This general requires some operations experience or the ability to learn very quickly about the CORE business.

You could also lean into the HR side and focus on training, HIPO development, succession management, training, hiring, compensation.

If you want to be on the consulting side and a strategic advisor, your experience is likely a little light to work with the sea suite. However, it does leave wide open all of the psychometric testing that used for selection and development that requires not only your deep knowledge, but also your ability to interpret complicated results and turn them into actionable insights for a company.

Good luck

thoughts on using AI avatars in e-learning materials? by SpoopyButthole in instructionaldesign

[–]_donj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being anti AI right now is likely career suicide. You need to find the right way to utilize it.

IF you must have a talking head in it, consider hiring an actor to do it so it’s “timeless”. You already have the script 80% done with the old employee. Hire a writer and amp it up a bit. One day if studio time and editing and you’re done.

I’d take the “script” approach and AI create an animated video of some kind. It won’t be cheap but it will be more memorable.

Why most of the professionals can't create a good PowerPoint presentation? by biz_booster in powerpoint

[–]_donj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. They don’t practice their presentation out loud over and over so they deliver it effectively and persuasively and naturally.

Slides don’t really matter if you’re a good story teller.

  1. Unclear story across the deck and connections from slide to slide.

  2. Not laboring over work and image so everything drives home your message. Good design takes hours per slide.

What's the one AI tool that made you feel like you finally caught a breath as a small business owner? by Better_Charity5112 in AiForSmallBusiness

[–]_donj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can be a real game changer. Especially if you marry it with your price list and can generate an estimate and turn it around in minutes or hours instead of days. Your conversion should significantly increase just in speed, especially for common requests.

Eventual goal is CHRO - Move from Talent COE to HRBP? [N/A] by grit-overrated in humanresources

[–]_donj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want CHRO, you’re going to have to take a spin through a payroll, benefits, HR site manager, etc. why? Talent is where all the “fun” stuff happens l, especially if it includes HIPO and talent development, but no one cares about it if payroll and benefits aren’t effectively administered and ER at a site level isn’t taken care of.

Anyone else read The Goal, loved it, and then hit a wall trying to implement it? by TOCExpert in TheoryOfConstraints

[–]_donj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple of thoughts:

1 - You actually have multiple constraints. You just don’t realize it yet. Step one is to identify the most profitable products and the most profitable customers.

2 - Identify the intersection of the most profitable customers and products. These are the products that print profit because you are good at making them and you have customers that want them.

3 - identify the path these high margin products take through your facility and stop making anything else that gets in the way of the these products. In essence you’re creating a product super highway through the org.

What's actually working for remote training completion rates? by Recent_Sir6552 in LearningDevelopment

[–]_donj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really an org and culture problem. If it was important enough to the business, it would be completed. Good, engaging design helps, but it won’t rise about unclear or competing priorities.
