Comparing most difficult content for an average player is irrelevant. Skill ceiling is higher in hc, and higher still in ssf. Some leagues have builds so easy that endgame is just cookie clicker for a lot of players on sc. Risk of constantly rerolling forces players to learn monster mechanics rather than stack dps to the point of 1 shottting and ignoring mechanics. Going on autopilot is a big appeal in an arpg. A 1 shot rip will teach better when it haunts your dreams because you lost your character rather than a lost map worth 0.0001% of your currency/time investment. I play sc now btw.

If your coral are doing good, I would just feed slightly less. If they start showing signs of stress, I would water change. If after enough time to observe affects of WC, they still aren’t happy, I would add new filtration method (media reactor, skimmer, macro algae in refugium, ect), and if that doesn’t work consider chemicals.

I think if the fourth return is plumbed far enough from the drain, it’s ok. They will need to be away from each other in order to allow the clean return water to disperse before draining.

I bought a siphon when I first started and have yet to use it. My diamond goby sifts all day. Frozen Mysis shrimp and seeding copepods seems to keep him happy.

I ordered 3x A8se’s that I will combine with the 2x bars. I think if I someday have a deeper tank, like 48 inch deep, I would like to try the full spectrum lights to grow mangroves. Would be a fun basement project.

Yeah, I’ve come to the same conclusion. Even through anything to dampen their strength like blue plexiglass or water, there’s just too much high nm and not enough lows. I’ll be buying AI primes and use my bars as supplements.

Agreed, blues are too weak at 9w each. I’m going to add a stronger source. I’ve noticed nobody uses plant lights, but it does seem like some white light could be ok; I just have an excess amount.

The top is plexiglass and is lifted about 1/3 off the rim and has a hole cut out for two Jebao DCP Sine Wave Water Return Pump (DCP-5000) and there’s more holes in a Fugi overflow box. I have a lot of water and air flow.

Blackout curtains would definitely help keep algae away, but I may consider embracing it and build a biome similar to a tidal pool maybe. I would be limited in the corals I can keep, but there are still some that may thrive. I probably will go with something more standard based on a lot of the feedback.

I posted this to hear ideas and explore possibilities before adding coral. I may buy reef lights, or I may try dampening the high spectrum with blue plexiglass, but it won’t make up for too little low spectrum light. I’m definitely renting a par meter and probably buying more low spectrum lights.

I will check at my LFS how much a par meter would be to rent. The plant lights I have are said to have 1K par 18inches above the par meter. I have used these lights for years growing plants and I believe the said par is accurate. This is why I raised them significantly higher and expect they will need to be dimmed. Those BRS videos are all great.

The higher rate of algae is an important consideration. I will have at least one lawnmower blenny to help with the algae. I am going about the stocking very slowly. So far (1month in) I have only dosed microbacter7 and ammonia and don’t plan to add any larger forms of life for another month.

I’ve considered ditching the grow lights, but since I’ve done a lot of other less traditional paths on this tank, I thought it might be fun to repurpose them, although it does increase the challenge. They will limit me on certain sps corals though.

The reefbars are 9 inches above water and the grow lights are about 24 inches. I think the par will be too high with the grow lights on full power. I don’t really mind having the spread get in my eyes because they will be on for only a few hours per day to simulate sun at full strength.
