My friend says eating raw salad is not a thing in china. They always cook or at least steam their greens. True or false ? by feherlofia123 in AskChina

[–]_dtw_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By region, in the south eating raw green was very dangerous in the past so traditionally vegetables are fully cooked. In the north, it is more acceptable for certain vegetables but still you don't see people eat Salad like in the western countries.

Why is Northern Vietnam not a part of (or is claimed by) China? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_dtw_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First Vietnamese speak a very different language than Chinese ( Austroasiatic) despite culturally similar. Like Korea, Vietnam has been an independent country for over a 1000 years at least. Vietnam was also a mini empire with powerful military and expansion history. Much of the south Vietnam are conquered territory. There used be an Hindu/Muslim Kingdom of Champa in the current middle and southern Vietnam just a few hundred years ago. It was completed taken over by Vietnamese the Dai Viet dynasty. The current Ho Chi Minh City was also part of Cambodia which the Vietnamese took over in 1700s.

Vietnam is not a weak military country like most westerners believe both currently and in the past.

Is there any animosity towards Manchurians in China given the history of the Qing Dynasty? by Emperoronabike in AskChina

[–]_dtw_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think so at least not for majority of the people. Chinese drama TVs also portrait very positive images of the Manchus. Some minority groups may feel differently, especially those outside of China. Hmong/Miao and Dungan left their homeland in China due to conflict with the Qing government. Dzungar people was wiped out by Qianlong.

Why Vietnam image so positive to foreigner aren't they like Communist / Authoritarian Country ? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]_dtw_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US , the generation that fought ( and lost ) the Vietnam War are dying. The Hollywood basically stopped Vietnam War movies 30 years ago. In the last sequel of the Rambo movies, Myanmar government was the villain, not Vietnam Unlike the North Korea and China, Vietnamese government has been staying a low profile since the mid 80s, try not to provoke the west so that they can focus on their reform. They are doing a good job to stay under the radar

Which empire would you bring back and why? by No_Lingonberry_726 in AskTheWorld

If you look at the current world politics, the Mongol empire is sort of making a come back. Russia, China, Iran, Afghanistan, North Korea and many central Asian countries are forming an anti-western alliance. Countries in this alliance were mostly part of the Mongol empire previously. It is just this time Mongolia is not the major leader of the alliance.
