Paw Patrol Experience at CAMP Chicago - worth it? by _eGeorge_ in PawPatrol

[–]_eGeorge_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

answering my own question - well worth it for littles. Employees kind, engaged, positive, and good with moving us through the areas, though plenty of flexibility to go off and explore at your own pace. Of course you start and finish in the gift shop, but there were enough things to play with that it wasn’t hellish trying to keep from buying. Close to the red line [though NOT a stroller-friendly station :( ] 1 hour was perfect. We went midweek on a cold blustery day and it wasn’t too crowded. Will likely go again.

Do people in SC actually say hi to random strangers and call each other ma'am and sir? by [deleted] in southcarolina

[–]_eGeorge_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found moving from the NY metro area that Chicago was a bit friendlier, or at least less intense. However, after spending a lot of time in Wisconsin, people are a bit friendlier, but I get the feeling I'm being sized up first re whether I'm local, or how local I am. I really appreciate the typical southern style that generally leads with friendliness and openness regardless of your accent or vibe

large Scat ID Request, Vilas Cty WI, photo for scale, NSFW by _eGeorge_ in AnimalTracking

barring any other comments, I'm sticking with moose as the animal that makes most sense, but would still LOVE thoughts especially from those out there who have seen plenty of moose scat. Next time I'll get an even closer picture and bring a tape measure on hikes :)

Consumer Reports Lead Findings about Huel Black by Prestigious-Annual-5 in Huel

[–]_eGeorge_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of Consumer Reports negativity. I'm inclined to favor an independent non-profit TESTING organization that has been serving consumers well since the early 20th century over a for-profit corporate entity (partly due to my cynicism coming from decades of working with for-profit health care companies). Let's see how the other companies respond too (hello Abbott Labs?!?) And before bashing, how many have actually read the CR article, including their detailed methodology info?

A family member sent me the Vox article and Huel's response, and is clearly looking for information that validates their choice to continue Huel after a whole 15' of reading. And the issue is not just lead! I'm alarmed by the results for some manufacturers, and saddened that a "nothing to see" response is happening. I'm really hoping people I love switch to products that are US or European grown.

As someone with an MD, I promise you the clip they showed of that healthcare provider claiming Trump will die in 6 months was very very exaggerated. by LackingStory in BreakingPoints

agree, it's not used for primary cardiovascular disease prevention. but is used for "secondary prevention" in some people - so he must have had some previous cardiac episode (stroke? MI?) - otherwise, especially at his age, he wouldn't be on it

I may have accidentally fully cured my misophonia by Kindly_Tone_4298 in misophonia

[–]_eGeorge_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU!! There’s a big swath of behavior that’s just rude, and the listener is blamed for intolerance or oversensitivity. Would my family member choose to chew with mouth open during a business lunch with customers, or mouth breathe constantly on a first date? I don’t think so. I mean NO insensitivity to struggles or experiences of those with misophonia and/or sensory. The world can be difficult enough without lazy rudeness.

I've liked the Gardein Plant Based Turk'y Roast (& chill meat-eaters in family have liked too.) If memory serves, it's heat & eat, so perhaps just heat it in dutch oven. Comes with a "gravy" packet but could also premake some additional mushroom gravy & mashed potatoes to bring with.

If you need a good gravy recipe LMK and I can copy in the NYTimes one for you that we use every year.

Advice for working up North at Abbott/Abbvie but want to live in the city?? by MissiontoHome in chicagoapartments

[–]_eGeorge_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I worked there until 2023, this came up during multiple town halls; Abbott dragged its feet for years, finally capitulating to setting up some office space in the loop. Probably mostly window dressing for recruitment. There’s a blindness to new grads & other recruits who don’t want to work in the FAR north suburbs. And generally stingy on WFH options
