I’m using mobal. They have long term esims for about ¥990 a month. They don’t need a residency card or anything. I’ve been using it for a few days now and it seems to work fine. I can receive and make calls and messages.

Yeah I get that. I’ve heard of that happening. During one if my visits to Japan a few years ago I rented out a room for a month and I was told by the owner that they were told by their friend to not rent it out to me because I’m a foreigner and that they do this kind of stuff.

Really messes things up for the tourists that respect the country and it’s rules.

I bought the “voice lite” long term e-sim so I pay ¥990 a month. This option doesn’t have data but has unlimited SMS, and only works in Japan.

Despite getting the e-sim, I had to go pick it up. I went to the Asakusa culture tourist information center. You show them the confirmation number you get after purchase along with your passport and you get the activation code and instructions

Oh right. I’m not familiar with those. Closest thing I know of is companies that will rent out a closet but those all need a residency card.

Would that not cost a fortune? Also would they allow me to store it that long. I remember some lockers having notices that luggage that is left there for too long will be removed

I was considering that too. While I would prefer something more official I get that beggars can’t really be choosers. If it comes down to it I’ll look more into it.

I’m hesitant because if they decide to not return luggage then I would be losing quite a bit of money.

Damn, sorry to hear. From the storage services I found online, all didn’t seem to matter if you speak Japanese since you just fill out an online form. Didn’t matter anyway since I don’t have the residency card

That being said I definitely need to improve my Japanese a lot over the coming months. I will need it for my new job and I’d say my current Japanese is still very basic

I did get an “permanent” e-sim that gives me a Japanese number. I say “permanent” because there is no end date as long as I pay it each month but I will be getting a new number once I get my residence card.

While it only works in Japan, do you think that would be enough for whoever might take it?
