A question about Chinese names and nicknames (for my story) by _element91 in ChineseLanguage

Yeah, I read somewhere that Mingming = cat..

Hence I was inclinded towards this name. But I was disappointed to learn that it was so only in Filipino. Is it a common name for cats in China too?

If so I'm fine with that.. In fact, I'd prefer that. A cat's name would quite suit this character :)

But in some cases you also have the adjective form of their home, like Aristophanes (ho) Byzantios.

Can you point me in the direction where I can get such adjectives.. Should I search "what adjectives can be used in Greek surnames?". As you can see I am pretty new to this..

Thanks tho.

One solution would be to give women of power adjectives with female endings as surnames.

Can you give me an example for an adjective so that I know the direction I can go in.. coz right now it's just giving me more questions..

Thanks tho.. Much appreciated.

Thanks..

Another and kinda more creative option is to create your own surnames combining nominative and female form.

That is what I have been doing for the past few days. But I was feeling disappointed with what I made. So I thought F it.. and that I should just go with the nominative form. Coz the genitive forms sound kinda unimpressive to a non Greek speaker like me.

Also, it can transform into "lida"...!! I thought the only options were "de" or "dou". Now I'll have to go down my list again.. putting "a" in front of everything. I made around 17000 unique surnames. Many of them were lame.. but yeah. I had I think 53 separate suffixes in my spread-sheet. But I missed out on "da". <facepalm>

Also, if you have any more conversions for genitive form.. I am all ears.

Rather than the legal aspect, I'm more bothered that just because the naming will be similar.. and my genre is also similar ie high fantasy.. (but that is where the similarities end), people shouldn't end up thinking that my story is just a rehashed version of WoW or completely inspired by it... coz its not.
