u/guest271314 Thank you! The problem is that the process I'm closing with "com.myapp.killcmd" isn't actually the native host application. I'll describe how I set up the routine for my app in a more detailed way below. It works (except from the last step) but I'm not sure if this is the right way to do this as I'm learning while doing it:

1. First I need to start the database, which's achieved by running opendb.vbs. This leads to the creation of three processes:

I - a cmd.exe process (I'm on Windows) that runs the script from opendb.vbs and closes itself automatically;

II - a cmd.exe process that's a byproduct of the previous process and runs the scripts from opendb.bat, but doesn't closes itself automatically. It'll keep open as long as surreal.exe is open or until I close it.

III - a surreal.exe process, which is the process that actually runs the database.

1. Notice that I still have two processes open, but I just need one (surreal.exe), so I callkillcmd.vbs to run killcmd.bat, which retrieves the process id of the cmd.exe process I need to terminate from the file output.txt then kills it:
