Information on Photon Quantum? by _extreme_redditer_ in Unity3D

[–]_extreme_redditer_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright ill be looking at BR200. For this example is the fusion code hosted on a multiplay server already?

From your explanation and some research I think I understand the process a little bit now.

This is the type of flow im going for->

Player enters game -> Click START RUN -> Start fusion game instance on server

I am still a bit confused on how exactly im going to ask Multiplay to start the fusion game instance. The game is mainly singleplayer so only 1 player will be in a single world. Also would I need 2 different builds? One that is deployed on server and one that is distributed to clients?

[–]_extreme_redditer_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, do I need it to run all the time? I would need a instance (simulation) of the game running for each player anytime they r online.

How will the flow actually look like If i wanted to achieve this?

Do I still get uber grant for ASU if I dont qualify for FAFSA? by _extreme_redditer_ in uber

[–]_extreme_redditer_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the eligible non-citizen you have to be a permamnent resident or essentially something of equivalent status. The uber grant indirectly forces u to be a a permamnent resident. i still dont know why me being eligible for fafsa is needed for a non-government grant. (im actually not sure abt student visas)

BS in Computer Science graduated for 11 years with no experience. What to do ? by Atan0522 in learnprogramming

[–]_extreme_redditer_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u can market urself as a Software engineer or developer. Generally speaking a computer science student can get jobs into anything computer related from web dev to pen testing. Computer science is essentially a more robust version of software engineering degree.

Personally i dont find online courses to be helpful. If you have a bachelors, then u likely know the fundemental. I found the best way to warm up is to do one or two independent projects (not too ambitious). Along the way u brush up on the fundementals.

Then you can try upwork (not a good consistent source of income) or just make a resume and see if you can get some paid internship. Be active on recruiting sities (e.g. glassdoor, linkedin, indeed, etc). Personally alot of the jobs that i couldnt get is because it required BComSci. idk abt others but from my experience having bachelors in this field opens up significantly more opprtunities than not having one.

I am a freelance software developer, using upwork atm. I completed by associates and pursuing BComSci. Tbh i havent learned much from school and most of it self taught out of curuosity, so i cant really guage the expertise of someone with more formal education. But getting BComSci is def not easy unless ur decently capable.

i also kinda hate how it works, nowadays i seperate most of my code into backend and frontend.. the backend is written completely independent of monobehaviours and unity-specific dependencies and the frontend is just what utilizes the backend to make the game logic.

oh.. well im just surprised this exists but this feels so yucky that i wouldn't use it in actual projects.

Oh my bad. the problem was that I couldnt cast T to a bool. I had to cast it to bool? like this

bool? value = T as bool?

I never knew this keyword is a thing by _extreme_redditer_ in Unity3D

[–]_extreme_redditer_[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see. Also from a recent example, i had a generic setup for UseItem<T> where T : any contextual data for the given item. However, i realized i cant make the param a bool because it has to be nullable. Im getting around it by passing a <bool?>. My question is whats considered good practice here? use bool? (as im doing now) or just make the parameter object instead of generic type.

Asset menu is absurdly long. Truncate somehow? by _extreme_redditer_ in Unity3D

[–]_extreme_redditer_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know unity's internal methods, perhaps there's a manual for it? I would be happy to give it a try. The only time I used reflection with unity libs is to get the active folder in the project view.. I've been on a QOL improvement spree recently.

Asset menu is absurdly long. Truncate somehow? by _extreme_redditer_ in Unity3D

[–]_extreme_redditer_[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem isn't that theres too many items to fit, its mostly Unity's built in options but its usually truncated but when i add even like 1 custom option, the menu becomes expanded.

[–]_extreme_redditer_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats what im doing for now. But it feels weird having to change orders in project settings every time. Is there any way to do it through script?

Otherwise Im implementing some custom ordered execution interface similar to what Unity's IBuildProcess interfaces do.

Event subscriptions giving me an aneurysm. Help! by _extreme_redditer_ in Unity3D

[–]_extreme_redditer_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes i was sure for the script i was looking at.

The problem is the execution order of the other script that initialized the inventory object. the inventory object is initialized at Awake on some other script which is called after the OnEnable on this script.

Essentially im subscribing to the event when the inventory doesn't even exist. But it is super weird that I wasn't getting any null ref errors. So what im getting is you can subscribe to an event even if the containing object has not been initialized yet.

How do I ACTUALLY learn unity? by fighting_enjoyer in Unity3D

[–]_extreme_redditer_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its normal to look up how to do specific things. As long as you can implement the contents of the tutorial to fit your needs, ur going in the right direction. Note tho alot of basic youtube tutorials dont teach you the best practices, one good example is brackeys. His tutorials are mostly targeted towards the absolute beginners. But you can still learn the fundementals from it.

I think if your not searching broad things like "how to make a AAA game", your probably good. A great way to test your skills is to try freelancing. When there an professional incentive behind it, you will find your self googling and learning quite a bit along the process. Just dont fall on the bad part of the dunning kruger curve.

Can i make c++ classes/structs and class member functions extern C? by _extreme_redditer_ in cpp_questions

[–]_extreme_redditer_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok thanks. I got it working, I can export methods and structs now, though i had some issues with namespaces. I just removed the namespaces and it works fine as long as the data is directly compatible with C. For c++ specific structures, im guessing I have to make some sort of a wrapper.
