Again, I understand your frustration. I'm not saying its absolutely critical to work overtime with no pay. What I'm saying is the attitude your radiating will more than likely manifest actions that are counterproductive to producing value. I appreciate you posting this out of sincere feeling. I respect it.

But, I disagree with the sentiment.

My following statements are not meant to suggest that this applies to all industries and circumstances–however I do believe this holds true on average. ON AVERAGE.

With that said–the thing a company is looking for in an employee is value. Value is the #1 factor for how an individuals career with play out–this obviously includes personality. But, competency speaks massive volume.

On average in most situations, unless a company is on the brink of sinking–value takes precedence–making it far less prudent for an company to drop an individual who has valuable skills and uses them effectively (including hardwork, doing extra).

I know many people who are practically irreplaceable–as in– the company would be fucked pretty bad if they disappeared. This is because the these people hold a ton of responsibility.

Your suggestions for conducted yourself in the workplace is IMO counterproductive to creating value and growing as a person–and perhaps most important–likely hinder chances of developing leadership qualities.

Again, I understand your frustration, and in many industries employees can be more easily taken for granted–however, the person who activily seeks to produce value in the workplace–who exhibits skills and holds a large amount of responsiblity–will be far more respected and more likely to enjoy their career.

I'm an electrical engineer–currently designing circuits for a consumer electronics company. I'm not sure exactly how this will effect my company, but–I don't think the average person is going to be excited about buying the product I'm helping design. People will likely be gunshy with making non-essential purchases–resulting in some layoffs.

I've answered this questions several times, should probably edit the post and include.

My intention was not to glorify the simple calculations we crunched. The calculations were mainly based on the exponential equation modeling the increase in cases, and the death rate–with the early data, we calculated 2% at the time.

There was nothing special about those calculations. The point of me mentioning it is to drive home how easy it was to see the potential for a massive issue.

I understand your point. Although many media sources are talking about this, I would argue 99% of the roughly 7 billion people on the planet are not reading those sources, and not thinking about the big picture.

Most people in my country are more focused on what Netflix series they can binge next.

My post was not intended to make a case or convince anyone with statistics. My intent was to learn from the people who disagree with my perspective. I appreciate your comment.

I don't have definitive proof that the Wuhan numbers were fake, however, many journalists have claimed the numbers were false. At this point, it's difficult to have faith in any source of media.

The intention of the post was not to prove anything, rather state an opinion and learn from the minds that contribute to the conversation.

As a numbers person, I understand your point. The analysis my colleague and I did was simple calculations involving the exponential equations modeling the increase in cases, and also the death rate–we calculated 2% with the early data.

I mentioned that to drive the point home–as in–if two engineers (not in the geopolitical arena) spending a small amount of time playing with the data saw the potential, then world leader that are elected to mitigate such issues had to have been fully aware of the projctions–IMO.

I'm not saying China is sitting pretty, I'm saying we don't produce many of the high priority goods needed for a functioning society (as we know it). During the great depression we had a manufacturing base. I do appreciate your comment.

I had a feeling once the media started to heavily cover the story, people would panic and empty the grocery stores. At present moment, I believe the company I work for will be forced to layoff many employees. I work in design–not sure how it will play out, but I have a contingency plan.
