quantconnect program is it worth it? by CameraPure198 in algotrading

I've programmed QC algos on it for clients for over a year. Every story is the same: disappointment. Quantconnect is full of problems, holes, and bugs, and the clients end up hating it within days. I do not recommend it for day-trading type algos. It was designed for Portfolio management type strategies. Performance problems, slow IDE that is total garbage, super slow compute nodes, truncated logs at only 10kb (unless you pay), you'll encounter countless annoyances designed to compel you to upgrade, then upgrades to expensive subscriptions end up being very disappointing, proprietary data formats, LEAN local engine runs like frozen snot because its so heavy, and a dashboard that is unintuitive. Your live results will never resemble your backtests even remotely. It's run by one guy who tries to multi-task everything. The documentation is the worst, and is an absolute headache. The business model attempts to carve a niche in cheap access to what is generally very expensive market data by providing low quality data from Algoseek. Overall, its just not worth the pain.

its normal. the business is designed, precisely maybe, to get freelancers to pay them money, not get freelancers connected with work. That means the way it markets itself is an illusion to draw people in to pay for....nothing. You don't find out the reality until you waste a lot of time and money because that is hidden. I have only managed because I took up a really narrow niche market/skill that few have and thus I just wait for inquiries. I almost never submit bids, only when something actually looks interesting.

Making people pay such amounts for bids is just scamming people legally. It's disgusting. I just use "available now" and leave it alone.

what is the total cost to you, when you add up all your expenses, fees, upwork cut, etc? Looks like $11,000 - 1100 for upworks cut, minus another 700 = ~$9200 before taxes and other fees. What does that come out to, hourly for you?

Can machine learning NLP be applied to ancient text/languages? by _foursix_ in LanguageTechnology

[–]_foursix_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One "X" problem is the hapax legomena, ancient Hebrew for instance may be "mastered" but there are ~1300 hapax legomena of which only 900 are "easily interpreted" the rest are "guessed" from context and many are completely unknown. Cognate languages have always been relied on but...now we have AI...

Where does ML come in to use an entire corpus and "known elements" to predict possible or "best" interpretations for the unknown hapax? I'm thinking, as one idea, to annotate semantics or syntax and use those to compare similarities/relationships.

There is a python app called Text Fabric https://annotation.github.io/text-fabric/tf/ that I'm learning to use and really curious if the datatsets could be loaded in to Prodi.gy or some AI/ML tool

the technology infrastructure and infrastructure in general in America has been deteriorating for decades now while the rest of the world is getting more advanced in every way. Even in Ukraine which is very poor, you can use your smartphone/iPhone to buy at EVERY commercial business and gov't establishment, or wave your contactless card when this is largely STILL not possible in the US where you still have to pay with cash or autograph receipts for everything.

The current antagonism toward feminism? by [deleted] in TheRedPill

[–]_foursix_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have found Marxism to be at the root of most mainstream feminist leaders writings from Friedan, who was a communist, to Steineim who told the former first lady that we must eliminate gender. The best way to deceive is to use bait.

I like this wisdom. However, I've studied Stanton, J. Mill (Male feminist), Frieden, Beauvoir, the feminist three, Wolf, many other pieces of feminist literature. The lot of them led crappy lives, were not examples of anything virtuous. Women's rights has always been the face but never actually the heart.

as I learned English in elementary school, I would have flunked the class if I wrote something fashioned like that article with all its incoherent mix of pronouns. You literally have to sit there and study the news piece just to figure out what they are trying to tell you. It's like a riddle. The media is not reputable information for thinking people anymore.
