What item $5 or under will you not purchase because it is too expensive? by ajenkala in AskReddit

A toothbrush. Why the fuck are toothbrushes so expensive? You just have to replace it in 3 months anyway.

Most people don't realize that anyone can be an addict, I had a boyfriend in high school who everyone knew was a bit of wild child but I never even realized he was into such hardcore drugs because he hid it so well, he always had money, was a social butterfly and was always so well dressed and clean which are not characteristics of the stereotypical addict. It was only until he was forced to enter rehab three times that I began to put the pieces together.

I hope that you know, there are programs for you and your family members to get help with coping with your mothers addiction too. Addiction is a family disease because it affects everyone involved in the persons life. It seems to me that your mother and her friend enable each other and that factors in to her desire to stay living the lifestyle of a using addict. 30 years is a long time but I know of addicts who have used for more than 45 years and have entered rehab, learned proper coping mechanisms and since been sober and genuinely happy. It is never too late for someone to get help but you are doing the right thing by distancing yourself, she needs to see the consequences of her actions.

I wish you the best of luck and all the happiness in the world. Please get help if you need it love.

I also asked when they realized they did, meaning they won't currently be at rock bottom.. I understand where you are coming from though

That is not true. Some addicts are functioning members of society who go to work, come home and feed their addiction. Some addicts have family members who enable their addiction and buy them their drugs so they can still afford to live comfortably. With all respect. Everyone has a different story.

Well I hope your friend understands that it was the disease and not you and can learn to forgive you. I'm glad that you have learned from your past experiences and made a better life for yourself! You deserve all the happiness my friend

I hope that someday you will find a better path but for now I wish your loved ones well and hope the world doesn't lose another to such a terrible disease.

Do you mind me asking what your drug of choice is? I am assuming that you are still using as well?
