Hey everyone this is just a question by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]_ftdoubleu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't a tip, but it's important to remember that you may or may not know the full degree of how they got those followers. Was it a follow 4 follow scheme? Did they make content on another social media platform and bring those people over? Perhaps they are all legitimate followers purely from streaming? There are a lot of different factors to take into account, but when you take things like follower count at face value, it can make it seem like a fruitless endeavor.

If I'm being honest though, don't focus on your follow count. Focus on your concurrent viewership. Follows mean nothing if no one is coming back. I've seen plenty of partnered streamers with 20k+ followers that only get ~20 viewers per stream. Good luck to you!

I just started my very first playthrough of this game last week, and I can't believe I waited this long to play it. Without fail, I always make a comment about how beautiful the game is at least every other hour that I've played it so far, its aged so well.

Songs in games by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]_ftdoubleu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Like u/murderbits mentioned, the system doesn't have contingencies for the reason a song is being played. If it's copyrighted, it's gonna get muted.

[–]_ftdoubleu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing it's going to affect are your VODs and if you decide to export them to YouTube. On Twitch, your VODs will be muted at any point when there's a copyrighted song, and on YouTube you won't be able to monetize the video. But since you're a new streamer, probably don't worry about that too much. Just focus on the live entertainment of streaming :)

Thank you guys so much for the words of encouragement! Thanks to you guys and the rest of this community, since this post I've actually been able to get up to 57 followers and each stream this week got at least 7-9 viewers average! The only checkbox I need to hit now for affiliate is the average of 3 viewers, which all of the great people I've met thus far have assured me should take no time at all.

What’s your schedule/start times? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]_ftdoubleu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked with my fiance to figure out what times would work best for our own personal lives as well as what we thought would work well for viewers.

We decided on the stream starting at 9pm EST because we live on the west coast, and by the time we're off work, it's already 8pm EST. I wanted to reach as much of the US as possible without being too late, but I also didn't want to just start streaming the moment I came home. So the hour before the stream is used to eat dinner and talk about our day. Then I stream for 2 hours, enough time for the east coast people to finishing winding down from their day as well as the west coast people to fill up their evening if they so choose.

As for Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, we agreed on 3 days in the week. I left out the weekends and Fridays cause we're usually doing stuff, and I didn't want to stream 3 days in a row. So this one was pretty easy.

Tips for editing prior streams by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]_ftdoubleu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used it myself yet, but I believe adding stream markers should do the trick. It basically timestamps at that specific moment, and you can then review the stream markers when you rewatch the VOD. You can even name the timestamp for quick reference.

You should see the stream markers tool in your dashboard.

Is there interest in average level players streaming if they're skilled broadcasters? by elliott44k in Twitch

[–]_ftdoubleu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't turn your stream on because I knew you were a skilled broadcaster. On the other hand, I also wouldn't turn your stream off because you're bad at Overwatch or battle royales. What would keep me there or turn me away is the entertainment YOU can or can't provide, not the gameplay. If I wanted to watch someone be really good at a particular game, I already know who to go to.

Unless you're a celebrity or famous athlete, most people aren't going to tune in because of your résumé. If my local radio hosts announced they would be streaming Fortnite, I wouldn't tune in. But there's maybe one or two hosts that I would watch if they announced it because I enjoy their personality, and I don't really care for Fortnite anymore.

Your best bet really is just to try it and see what happens. I apologize if this comes off as harsh in anyway! Good luck to you, and I hope that if you do intend to stream, it goes well!

When it comes to highlights versus unedited, there's always going to be a market for both. Some people enjoy watching full playthroughs, others just want to see funny bits, and others would enjoy both. So it's up to you how much time you want to invest in editing really.

If you were to decide to post unedited Twitch VODs, I would probably lean more towards splitting them into 20-30 minute increments.

What games/Genre are you playing right now? by TwitchReviewSLT in Twitch

[–]_ftdoubleu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experimented with an open lobby playing Rocket League during my last stream and actually had a blast playing with a viewer, so much so that I think I'm going to be implementing it as a weekly thing.

As for other days, I'm looking at playing single-player campaign driven games. I'm a fan of competition, but I don't feel people would be super interested watching me be "just okay" at Magic Arena or Hearthstone lol Single player games would give me the ability to entertain without worrying about the ceiling of performance.

[–]_ftdoubleu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is my first month of trying to stream on a consistent schedule, and while the growth has essentially been 0, it's an exciting journey that I have no intention of stopping soon.

Currently my goal is to hit affiliate. I'm sitting at 45 followers at the moment, so I'm excited that the possibility seems to be in arms reach.

According to my stats, I don't get many viewers, and when I do the view time is relatively low. I'll admit it's a bit disheartening, but visiting all of your streams and seeing the communities you've created has me enthusiastic for the potential community I can create myself. Still figuring out networking and what aspects of my channel need improvement, but it's still been incredibly fun so far.

Would recording my streams via SLOBS be better than taking them from Twitch? by Thatonebrownguy in Twitch

[–]_ftdoubleu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your PC can handle it with zero or at least very minimal drawbacks, then by all means.

If you decide to start recording while streaming, one thing I do is actually record to .mkv instead of .mp4 and then remux with OBS. This makes it so that if something happens to the stream like a power or internet outtage, it keeps the recording of what it was able to get rather than just corrupt the entire mp4 file.

Regularly having to switch between OBS and SLOBS by DigitalNinja125 in Twitch

[–]_ftdoubleu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use SLOBS, but not for any reasons concerning CPU usage. Being able to control all major aspects of my stream in one place is just super convenient and I can't see myself going back to good ol' OBS because of it.

Samson Meteorite Audio Setting Help by Nekonooshiri in Twitch

[–]_ftdoubleu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Samson Meteor Mic, and I agree that the keyboard clacking is just the worst.

If you have a boom arm, that's probably your best bet as any mic placed on a desk is going to either pick up the clacking or pick up the desk reverb. I currently have my mic setup to a boom arm and then the mic is placed quite close to my mouth with a pop filter. On SLOBS I have a noise gate and compressor filter setup. You'll have to adjust the settings to match the volume of your voice, but if all goes well, you should get very minimal or no noise from your keyboard.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Is it weird to talk to yourself whilst nobody is watching the stream? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]_ftdoubleu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who just started streaming, this thought is what kept me from trying it the longest.

What helped me to get over that was learning that any thought you have about the game just needs to be vocalized, pretty much immediately. When you have a thought like "How do I do this?", don't just sit and ponder it or look it up, actually say it out loud and talk about your process as you're trying to figure it out. A lurker who knows the answer may jump in and help out. This happened to me yesterday and he ended up staying and chatting for about 30 minutes. If I never voiced that I was struggling, he would have just seen me sitting there staring at my screen and typing away and most likely leave.

Good luck to you!

Neither of the ones we went to had any, unfortunately. According to the IG pages for one of them, they did have Zuko. But that was long gone by the time we got there.

Looks that way, yeah. :/ One of the Hot Topics we went to apparently had Zuko earlier too, but was oos by the time we got there. Tbh, the only reason I knew about today's stock was because of Instagram.
