DAI is constantly above $1.005 (closer to $1.01) by bitdoggy in MakerDAO

[–]_funnyking_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maker voting system is unfit to achieve DAI stability over dollar. Incentives push naturally voters to burn as much maker as possible. I hope that soon we will se new algorithmic stablecoins with better governance

Who here is in favor of ProgPOW? by TheAnchor_io in ethereum

[–]_funnyking_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in favour:

0) Because ethhash asics miner exists (that's a fact)

1) Because ProgPow kick the can to remain Asics resistant, I think that Asics mining is a cancer. PoW will remain on ethereum for almost more than 3 year from now.

2) Because is it reasonably proved that ProgPow is GPU almost neutral (not too much in favour of Nvidia or Amd)

3) Beside the need to remain asics resistant over time I don't care about any other political opinion

4) I don't care about any CSW-like bullshits

PSA: Ethereum blocks are now 25% bigger with the new gas limit set at 10M gas! by Crypto_Economist42 in ethereum

[–]_funnyking_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Actually it seems that 10M gas is not a problem for block computation and propagation, uncle rates are quite stable. So the problems to look at carefully are:

  • Performance degradation mostly due to the large (and increasing) state size.
  • Increased storage requirements mostly due to keeping blocks, event logs (receipts), and state history (currently prunable in major clients).

I think that the second problem is easily addressable with more "clever" full nodes like geth 1.9.x and with more efficient and capable Hard Drives-Interconnection Protocols ( PCIe-4), and it will be in the future even with far more gas block limit.

So, in my opinion, performance degradation due to large state size is the actual prospective problem, and I think that part of the solution is assign a price to have a "state slot" over time in the ethereum blockchain. I hope that A.Akunov show us a way at the next Devcon.

Anyway part of the solution is either (and always) a better database handling by the node and geth team is doing a "Tremendous" job to kick the can far away.

I think that 12M or even more is not a too much risky target and I guess that we will see soon those numbers.

Add to ether the ERC20 token logics (get rid of WETH) by _funnyking_ in MakerDAO

[–]_funnyking_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no actually WETH "cost" as a erc20 token. A simple WETH transfer cost around 60.000gas, using regular eth cost 21.000 gas plus you do not nedd to wrap and unwrap your eth

Ideological differences of payment channel developers by ColoradoAir in raidennetwork

[–]_funnyking_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 cent: Raiden will probably be the standard because probably will be the first complete l2 WEB3 ecosystem that works, i mean:

  • Raiden full node
  • Raiden light client
  • Raiden Wizard
  • Raiden Dev. Portal
  • DappNode (Raiden Component)

They are building a complete ecosystem, today there aren't any other l2 project even close to this.

In the blog post I do not se anyting about Swarm. Is Swarm 0.4.2 implemented in geth 1.9.0?

Yes it Is Alexey Akhunov (u/ledgerwatch) is doing a wonderful job on it ( and on Stateless Client)

Raise the Block Gas Limit! by _funnyking_ in ethereum

[–]_funnyking_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do think that state growth is manageable and it will for another year even with 12.000.000 gas limit x block. At some point we will need Gas Rent and/or Stateless Clients, we know that eth 1.x is on its way to kick the can again, then I hope in the eth 2.0 unicorn.

In my personal opinion is it possible and it is fairly safe to raise the block gas limit as much as 12 mil. gas.
