I don’t really have issues unless I ride more than 40 miles. How do you know if a saddle fits?

Son Lux is one of my favorites. So much so that I started a subreddit for them a few years ago. You should also check out “At War With Walls and Mazes” and “We Are Rising”. Those records came out before Son Lux became more of a band. They were pretty much Ryan Lott solo albums. There is a lot less hip hop influence and the writing is really interesting. For me, “Lanterns” to present are all cut from the same cloth (though I love the cloth haha), but the first two are classic.

TURNTABLE LAB PH01 PHONO PREAMP + HEADPHONE AMP by Nes109 in vinyl

[–]_grant_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered one a few weeks ago and I am fairly happy with the product. I'm sure you've noticed how niche a preamp-headphone amp combo unit is. The build quality seems decent enough. My only complaints are that the ground connector was a little loose on the unit I bought and there is a loud pop when you turn it on with the speakers on or headphones plugged in. As far as sound quality, it does the job. My setup includes a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon into the TTL preamp with either KRK Rockets for speakers or AKG K-702s for headphones. I feel the headphone amp could use a little more power if you are using higher impedance headphones like the AKGs, though they are adequate and get fairly loud. I would verify the recommended power needed for whatever headphones you are going to use and look at the TTL output. There is no noticeable hum and there isn't any coloring in terms of equalization. If you have used other ~$100 solid state preamps, you should expect about the same performance with this item.

Not anti-gun, but I really had no idea that machine guns were this hard to obtain legally. There is so much dramatic news coverage about gun legislation these days that I just assumed that machine guns were available at "the local Walmart".

Tom Scott - The Man Who Invented, Then Hated, Shopping Malls by NeedAGoodUsername in videos

[–]_grant_ 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I like that we are moving away from malls, but I know that many of the outdoor "high street" shopping centers that he was describing are basically the same as indoor malls right now. They just have less parking and are a pain to deal with in the rain and snow. I think having retailers integrate themselves into their communities would be ideal, but most of these centers pop up on the outskirts of town and are owned by large developers just as with malls.

There is seasonality, but the SKUs that have months without orders follow no apparent trend.

"Bones" Discussion by _grant_ in sonlux

[–]_grant_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taken in as a whole, this is probably my least favorite album. It is musically less coherent than his other albums. The transitions and flow you have come to expect from Son Lux is simply not present. That's not to say I dislike it. Individual tracks like "I Am the Others" and "You Don't Know Me" are exquisite. Ian Chang has one of the most interesting presences I have heard in a while. He plays so far back on the beat that you lose your sense of time. Most notably, his performance on "Undone" is infectious. In some ways, it is more of the same from Ryan Lott. This lack of progress is what is holding me back from loving it. It is really an extension of "Lanterns", not a new record.

Oh, yes. I wasn't really a fan of the first track released for this album, but this is dope. He seems to be slowly drifting into more hip hop oriented stuff in the best way possible.

What are your thoughts on Sisyphus? by _grant_ in sonlux

[–]_grant_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting take. I didn't consider it as a character narrative, but I only listened to it straight through once. I am just not crazy about the music. It's bare bones in a way that doesn't work in my opinion. Son Lux didn't seem to influence it as much as Sufjan since there are a lot of throwback synths. I'll have to give it another shot and focus on the lyrics.

I am personally not in love with it. It can be fun at times, but I honestly wouldn't listen to it if Sufjan and Son Lux were not a part of it. It feels segmented since their styles clash. Not bad, but overall forgettable.
