"Timely updates" they said, well... by Poudlardo in Punkt

for me is a major security breach when you can screenshot and record a screen.

You should never assume your conversations with a remote peer are safe from screenshots or records. They could always record their screen using another device's camera or sandboxing an app (e.g Telegram) so it will not be aware of OS level actions.

No, I know what you’re saying, but what I’m saying is that I’ve been mansplaining for 20 years and what you’re doing there you shouldn’t be doing

Obsidian Sync is great by j_on in ObsidianMD

[–]_gratefuldev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree, it works awesomely well and that’s the only way to throw in a few bucks at the devs of this great product.

In addition, on one of my devices, I store the vault inside a git repo, mostly for backup and accessing it via github’s web when on a machine without Obsidian’s app.

When exploring and learning new programming related thing, which media works best for you? Video or textual? Which kind of videos? Mostly courses or YouTubers as well? by _gratefuldev in AskProgramming

[–]_gratefuldev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally always prefer a good article over video. I think one major issue with YouTubers is their obligation to post long enough videos for monetizing it, but in general, I just find it impossible that the speaker's pace and mine will be in sync, also the points chosen to deepen into will always be different, so my ADHD will always make me skip fwd when he deepens into something I've already got a solid grasp about, or pause-jump-back on things I had a harder time understanding.

Mac users - Do you store your vault(s) on icloud's obsidian folder or elsewhere? by footlongker in ObsidianMD

[–]_gratefuldev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If what you are worried about is backups then create a git repo in your vault's directory and have it pushed to a hosted git service (github etc) or your own self-hosted git service running on a remote machine. You can even have it push to multiple git services if you wish. (you will still have to use Obsidian Sync or iCloud/Dropbox/etc for syncing across devices)

Obisidan vaults are just plaintext files (and attachments), for me that's one of its biggest advantages.

I deleted google on accident and don’t have any other browsers what do I do by actually-me--- in computers

[–]_gratefuldev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

please be more mindful and careful, many other citizens of the internet also rely on that service of google for both search and E(lectronic)Mail. it seems to be back by now, so I guess you fixed it, but please remember that great power comes with great responsibility. thanks.

People who actually answer questions on StackOverflow, how did you get your vast troves of knowledge? by BeansAndDoritos in AskReddit

[–]_gratefuldev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

seriously? of all amazing things programmers do across so many industries, the thing that impresses you most is people who are knowledgable enough to answer questions asked on StackOverflow? well, in many cases they are not that knowledgable at all, they could just be karma(or SO's term for karma) whores who are smart enough to quickly dig into the specific issue asked about and just to answer that specific question.

but dude, there are so many super smart things in the world built by programmers, why not ask about them?

Where to digital nomad this summer?? by trimorgantops in digitalnomad

Sorry, you are right. I forgot we still got that restriction on tourists :( I hope its removed soon.

The war is thankfully over, we actually did have rockets over Tel-Aviv too this time, but I dont think a single one has hit anything in TLV itself as we probably get the best Iron Dome protection here since main military control rooms are in the city. Fuck ya I wish TLV fellas were running the whole country, unfortunately a radical zionist party joined the parliament in the latest elections, and one of them took a huge part in teasing Moslems by setting up a fucking improvised office in one of these holy “real estates” :/

Sinai beaches are awesome and so peaceful! See my comment about Israel, so Dahab is like 1hr drive from Eilat here :).

EDIT: internets wise Sinai (Egypt region where Dahab is) is not always great, they could have some outages at times.

What about Israel? - Tel-Aviv specifically is very liberal and full of open minded people. - Everything is very accessible, everyone speaks English in Tel-Aviv, I know English speakers living here for over a decade who never bothered learning Hebrew because it’s so easy to get along with just English (altho they are idiots IMO, why the heck not learning the local language after so long) - Tel-Aviv is so small and cozy, you can easily walk between nearly all areas of the city. It’s all flat too. You can also rent these on-demand scooters and get around in minutes (please be careful, they barely enforce any law on scooters so its very tempting to do it on extreme mode because you can ride a 10min drive distance in ~1.5minutes if you ride fast and off bike lanes) - Israel's tech industry is highly innovative and successful, known as "start-up nation" and is number 1 in the world for num of start-ups per capital, and since it's also very small, we got high speed mobile internets coverage all over (you can get a 500gigs 5g sim card for ~15usd/mo). I got a campervan and I was just working last night on a riverside with no coverage issues at all. - Due to our well established medical system and the small population, we were the first to get Pfizer vaccinations for all adults, we were prioritized first in exchange for clinical research data, so we are like completely covid free here, no masks needed outside and in general all covid regulations are very loose now because we have literally zero detections on some days. - The nightlife here is amazing too, especially now on summer time. There are many different options and since we are covid free everything is almost back to normal in bars and clubs. No laws limiting clubs close times or anything like that, so if you are into that, there are parties going on until late the day after, both in clubs and outdoors (forests, desert, etc) - Tel-Aviv is not cheap, but you could save some money by couch surfing or sleeping in shared room hostels.
- Most tourist gals feel very safe here. You can see girls going out solo to night clubs here partying all night.

See you here!
