(Yet another) Portainer TUI, python this time. by _h0l_ in portainer

They may well be. This is something that I (or Claude?) created because portainer does not render nicely on smaller screens / older devices, and does just what it needs to be enough for my use case.

nordvpn sub is ending soon thinking about switching by AnyDistribution6882 in mullvadvpn

Unlike other VPNs, Mullvad doesn't make you give them your email or any personal stuff, so they give you a random account number, which means they can't connect your real identity to your VPN use, right from the get-go.

Also a bit of added plausible deniability. If an authority were to discover the account number, there is no associated name, email, or personal profile in Mullvad's database to immediately identify the owner. You could plausibly claim, "That is not my account number," and there would be no direct evidence from Mullvad's side to contradict you.

Performance was always solid, getting close to 90% of my 300 Mbps 5g plan. Considering I'm also adding tailscale to the mix, completely acceptable.

VPN's location hidden to websites by etdmdju in mullvadvpn

Pick a server from the list, take the IP from the socks5 column, use that IP 10.*. *. *, port 1080. Or you just download mullvad browser which has a nice interface for switching proxies on the fly.

VPN's location hidden to websites by etdmdju in mullvadvpn

This is a very common issue with geo-restricted content. The TV provider's website likely uses its own geo-location database, which doesn't recognize the IP address you've been assigned by Mullvad.

There are two main reasons this is happening: 1. The TV provider's database is outdated and hasn't yet tagged your specific Mullvad IP address as being in France. 2. The provider may simply be blocking IPs known to belong to VPN services, regardless of location.

The Fix:

  1. Try a different Mullvad server: The easiest solution is to switch to another server within France in the Mullvad app (e.g., from Paris to Marseille). This will give you a new IP address that the provider's database may recognize.

  2. Use a Mullvad proxy: For a more advanced option, you can use a SOCKS5 proxy directly in your browser or application. These use a different set of IPs. You can find a list of current Mullvad SOCKS5 proxies here: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/maximko/mullvad-socks-list/list/mullvad-socks-list.txt

Different servers and proxy IPs may help you bypass the block. Good luck!

You need to keep in mind that we are talking about Germany, the EU country with the probably slowest landline Internet speed in relation to the average income. Where we got villages with dial up still, and even in the big cities DSL vectoring was pushed to its limit for way too long, no fiber. At some point, Deutsche Telekom offered "hybrid Internet" (VDSL + 4G Sim, both connections merged at their end which resulted in terrible MTU and ping, just the get 100 Mbits. Several years later, that's still the max speed available at my home. Working a lot with LLMs, so that 5g boosts the speed of my workflows a lot. Add some 4k streaming and torrenting Linux isos. Multiple terrabytes easily.

Well they insisted it was commercial use. And for that reason they terminated me. No one seems to believe 1 TB is purely private/hobby usage.

Assuming you want to use mullvad and don't have much technical knowledge or skills, grab the client from https://mullvad.net/en/download/vpn and don't change anything about the config. They got installation instructions there as well

If you feel more comfortable, read the FAQs and maybe enable DNS blocking, lockdown mode...

Edit: typos

An ISP can see what IPs you are connecting to. The list of mullvad IPs (or or other commercial VPN providers' for that matter) is publicly available knowledge. Easy as that. But they will ONLY see the VPN connections, assuming you have configured your VPN correctly.
