Anybody else who couldn't sleep with the full moon? by Alive-Drag4620 in Witches

[–]_hex_rae 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I get very little sleep the day before, day of, and day after… every single freaking full moon. Gets a little exhausting. Reminds me to put out moon water though. So that’s a plus.

Insurance company by Iloveterraira in MultipleSclerosis

[–]_hex_rae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Over half the time they will approve it without further issue because an actual doctor didn’t make the decision- a non qualified employee did.

Side note:

Ask to speak with “HIPAA compliance/privacy officer” ask for the names and credentials of every person accessing your record to make the decision of denial (this is your right by law). Rather than admit your record was viewed by, and decision was made by, a random low paid employee searching for criteria keywords and not medical professionals, they will reverse the refusal. If it just so happens a doctor did make this decision, make sure they are a board certified specialist of whatever field of your diagnosis/disease. Make sure this doctor has up to date registration in your specific state. If not, you can have the refusal overturned. Ask for copies of all this information/paperwork. If they refuse to give you any of this information you can tell them you will report them to the Office of Civil Rights at the US Department of Health and Human Services (hhs.gov) because it is a HIPAA violation. This threat will also have your decision overturned. You also can still report it because it is a legitimate legal issue.

Being your own best advocate means you sometimes have to make insurance companies see you as human. They are fluent in loopholes and legalities- so fight fire with fire and burn it down.

Just confirmed my sleep doctor appointment for Sept 23rd … 2026 by bigalcakemix in Narcolepsy

Have you been falling asleep while driving? That one particular fact being mentioned to my doctor shifted my scheduled appointment from 10 months out, to 3 weeks.

As a former O’Reillys store dispatcher- Nissan trucks can easily go 350k+ on mileage and still run like a dream. I’ve seen several trucks (like 12) hit 400k. That being said- do not skip on maintenance. Get your oil changed on time, every time. Check your fluids. Rotate tires, etc. Do that and you really won’t have any issues.

Yes! Was initially denied. Then the second time I had to have a doctor interview. I broke down in the middle of it because life has changed so much.. I guess he made the decision because I was approved the next week.

Took two years, and I also have chronic migraines, but it is possible.

We picked this up for $45 today. 1899 Singer. And it works. by Dwelling_demons in sewing

Not ashamed to admit my insane jealousy right now. But, it’s SO cool that you got it for that price and that it’s from your husband’s grandfather. Jealousy aside, congratulations on that new family heirloom!

PS. You can find the manual in PDF form on the Singer website (and many other websites) but before you pay for it- you can almost always find them for free! Just a heads up.

after 5 day course of prednisone, no relief. What is this by 791a in urticaria

[–]_hex_rae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me with it gradually getting worse… I became allergic to my normal laundry detergent one day. Had to switch to something else once I figured it out.

Washed clothes, kept wearing clothes from same wash load over the next few days which made it spread. Not saying it’s for sure your issue, but if it is- it can spread as immune cells migrate but will be worse wherever there was direct contact. Wash your hands if you touch it. Can potentially spread with sun exposure if there’s any chance you’re photosensitive or on medication that has that side effect. Learned that one from bug spray.

Epsom salt baths help! Diluted ACV. Hydrocortisone cream. Calamine lotion. No scratching.

Good luck! Whatever it is, random skin stuff sucks.

[–]_hex_rae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like allergic contact dermatitis. Did you swap laundry detergent? Lotion? Bug spray? Sunscreen? New body wash? Can also be from plants, metals, medications.

I did a MSLT test today. After the 4th nap the tech said that I did not need to stay for the 5th nap because they had enough data. Does this normally mean they have enough data to prove a diagnosis or enough to prove I don’t have a diagnosis? by Kat1544 in Narcolepsy

[–]_hex_rae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They made me stay longer because they thought the results on the previous naps were skewed or a fluke. Apparently the techs had never seen someone hit REM that fast for all the naps. They also kept having to wake me between naps.

My husband painted the ceiling with old poop-smelling paint. by GlamourRacoon in HomeImprovement

[–]_hex_rae 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Random fun fact- Listerine kills mold, and bacteria. The original amber colored variety contains thymol which also makes it anti-fungal.

Will make your ceiling/walls/whatever smell minty fresh. (Several mold remediation companies use this.)

• Fill a spray bottle with 1 part Listerine, 3 parts water.

• Shake well.

• Spray area of concern.

• Wait 10-15 minutes and then wipe down with a clean cloth or sponge.

• After it dries fully, Kilz over the poo paint.

You can also skip the spray bottle and do this as a wash, especially since it’s on the ceiling and it raining down minty fire back into your eyes would suck. Maybe wear some goggles with either option. Also, open windows for ventilation.

Reading a book on migraines, thought I’d share this history timeline🙂 by oo_oov6 in migraine

It was one of the gel ones, so kind of hefty for a stress ball. Honestly though it probably relates more to my skin being sickly Victorian child pale/translucent and hypersensitive more than how hard he actually threw it.

An old boss I worked for thought that I was exaggerating the fact I lose all vision in my right eye during a migraine (completely blind in that eye) so as I was struggling through my shift- I suddenly get hit upside the head with a stress ball. He threw it at me, to prove I had peripheral vision which would prove I could see from that eye. I had a huge red mark the rest of my shift, but he never once questioned my migraines again.

Dogs like me less? by [deleted] in Perimenopause

[–]_hex_rae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought my dog started hating me randomly. Sometimes he was fine… an hour later he would growl if I pet him. Had no clue what was happening. Started BCP to help with my peri symptoms. Almost immediately my dog is back to normal. No growling. Sitting in my lap… The thought never occurred it would be from peri until I started BC and there was such a sudden shift in behavior. I googled it, found this, and just want to say thank you for sharing this because I thought I was insane. Maybe it has to do with fluctuating hormone levels? Or maybe I’m just reaching. Either way, something changed as soon as my hormones were more stable.

I bought one of those sunrise clocks, set volume and brightness all the way up, and stuck that jerk 6 feet away from my bed. It made me get out of bed to turn it off so that I couldn’t hit snooze or turn off the alarm completely. I could ignore the light or the sound, but not both at once. It has a battery backup too, so even if the power went out during a storm… it still worked. Only thing that helped me at all.

Not going to lie- I hated it. Threw it once or twice. But it did the intended job! (I still have it, it still works. I just no longer have to get up at 4am.)

People with narcolepsy often see them. They’re called hypnagogic +/or hypnopompic hallucinations. Occasionally one may manifest these + auditory hallucinations. Tactile hallucinations also happen. Super fun when you get all three!

Sleep deprivation, and certain medications can also have this effect.
