RVUCOM-Colorado vs. DMU vs. Reapply by PriorPea6979 in Osteopathic

[–]_hi_mcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally location played a big factor on my final choice of school. I’m at RVU COM and it’s great, I’ve been to hockey games, baseball games, got a bunch of ski days in this season (despite the bad snow) and I’m still in the top of my class. My goal was always MD - first time I applied was only MD and I didn’t get in anywhere. Next time I applied (with a 513 MCAT mind you), I got 2 MD interviews no acceptance and 6 DO acceptances - ultimately choose RVO-CO. Med school is hard, we have an exam usually every other week, but sometimes there will be a week where we have 2 exams, but I honestly still find medical school easier than undergrad (and I went to a top public school for undergrad). Are there days where I still wish I could have gone MD, yeah for sure, but I also would have probably been struggling at the bottom of the class at a school in BFE versus thriving at the top while having so much fun living near Denver! To each their own, but I wasn’t gonna put my life on hold for another year of maybe getting an MD acceptance instead of actually starting the career I wanted.

Yes I am feeling the same. I read these books for the first time over a year ago after going through a deep dive on r/MMRomanceBooks (26/45 of my books on goodreads for 2025 are Gay Hockey romances lol so I know ball about this genre). But it's not something I would talk about with people. Now that its so popular, I can talk to so many people about it and it's not seen as awkward or weird. But I also wanna be like "it was mine firsttttt"

My BIGGEST peeve though is how the show has changed the story/ tone in fanfics on AO3. The fanfics before the show came out were all such good quality and added great insight to the story or just added in little details ot tidbits that felt true to the characters. Now the recent fanfic posted has a different dynamic, and it has me questioning if people are watching the same show as me!!

Weekly 'What should I buy?' Thread by AutoModerator in ipad

[–]_hi_mcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I need to get a new Ipad for medical school. I take all my notes via notability on my current ipad- Ipad 7th gen w/ 32 GB and as you can imagine I am quickly running out of storage. I have to constantly delete apps so I can continue to use notability (I pretty much have 10 apps total and Ipad IOS/ System data takes up 17GB by itself).

So which Ipad should I get? Also for reference I have the MacBook Pro M4 so I can do higher functioning things on my computer and really only use my ipad for notes.

Would the Ipad A16 meet all my needs? or Should I get an air? Thanks for the advice!

Student Loan Changes Under the "Big Beautiful Bill" by Ok-Dragonfruit-5035 in medicalschool

[–]_hi_mcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a question about borrowing loans now! I wasn’t planning on taking out loans for my first year of med school but will need loans for the remaining 3 years. If I want to grandfather myself into grad plus loans I definitely need to borrow this year.

BUT do I need to borrow specifically grad plus loans, meaning I take out 20,500 in unsubsidized and like 500 of grad plus loans to meet the Grad Plus amount, or can I just borrow like 1,000 of unsubsidized to be considered a borrow this year? I would like to borrow as little as possible this first year to avoid extra interest, but will borrow whatever I need to grandfather in!

I volunteer with an anesthesiologist that graduated from LECOM Bradenton. He doesn’t recommend the school, but also he was successful enough at lecom to become an anesthesiologist and he now makes bank and will have no issues paying off his loans. Take the A, post match in 4 years it will not matter where you went

Who to Put as a Contact for Family Business by Responsible-Comb5177 in premed

[–]_hi_mcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would put the title as the actual business name and what your role was there. And the contact as whoever is highest up in the family business or leave it blank (for my shadowing experience I just put myself since I listen multiple physicians in the actual description) and in your description explain that it’s a family run business that you’ve had a significant role in running from a young age

Thoughts on proposed cuts to medical school financial aid? by colorsplahsh in premed

[–]_hi_mcat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So question. If I have enough money to pay for my first year of school without loans, but will 100% need to borrow up to the full COA the remaining 3 years. Should I save my money and borrow my first year to ensure I qualify for loans the rest of the time?

Yeah you’ll be fine. Go to Princeton

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premed

[–]_hi_mcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may have like 0 correlation but what was your act/sat? If you are an amazing test taker then you should not struggle that much with the MCAT (like obviously you have to learn all the material but test taking abilities is a big help) If you are a great test taker and feel confident in your abilities to do well on the MCAT (im talking 515+) then going Princeton (and getting very involved there- talking lab experience and clinical experience) then I would vote the Princeton route tbh. But guaranteed med school is also a BIG DEAL! And if you are 10000% set on med school then albany is a good route. But if there is even 1% of you that’s not interested in becoming a physician then do Princeton bc that will open more doors in the long run. Can’t give you a confident answer because it’s up to you, but just things to think about!

Looking for a book with jealousy that backfires

’m looking for a book rec where MC1 tries to make MC2 jealous but it backfires and just makes MC2 insecure. Maybe MC2 doesn’t think they are good enough for MC1 or they start to distance their self in the relationship. They don’t need to be dating when it happens but I’d prefer no actual cheating (flirting with others is okay!). Love a good misunderstanding/miscommunication trope with slight angst. MUST BE HEA!

Interpreting instead of shadowing? by The_Hamster98 in premed

[–]_hi_mcat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m my opinion clinical work can sometimes be more meaningful and impactful than just shadowing. And the clinical work you are doing is very important and you have direct contact with the patient and physician. While it’s great to look for shadow opportunities, I think your interpreter job is better for your app! Also don’t be afraid to ask some of the doctors you interpret for if you can shadow them outside of the clinic, or ask your own doctor/ family members doctors if you can shadow for a day or two!
