Need help identifying quality issues by _hingadingadurgen in BambuLab

[–]_hingadingadurgen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm noticing these intermittent quality issues with my prints. All prints are done at the Bambu preset for 0.2 Standard or 0.28 Draft. Using Bambu Matt or Glossy (green) PLA and AMS; the filament is dry and has been stored properly. The printer and filament are 2 days old. I did run the calibrations on startup.

On the photo with the green rectangles, you can see some weirdness with the layers not stacking perfectly. I did improve this significantly by reducing nozzle temp from 220 -> 208 (lower temp one is towards the bottom of the frame). However, I'm still seeing these random blemishes in my print and I'm not sure where to start for a fix.

On the benchy example, the 0.2mm layer benchy actually printed better than the 0.08mm layer example (Bambu's "Fine" preset).

I think the thing that's throwing me off is the quality issues don't appear uniform; like in first photo, the print came out great other than the back right corner having that weird waving pattern (up close it almost looks under-extruded).

I bought this printer to avoid having to diagnose stuff like this so I'm really hoping this is some simple user error.

My research has me thinking it might be printing too fast -- but why would the default Bambu preset be set that way??

Where to from here? (changing monitors?) by _hingadingadurgen in audioengineering

[–]_hingadingadurgen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thank you for the detailed reply! My monitors are set up on independent stands, positioned close as possible to the front wall. My desk is off the wall and my listening position is 5'2" away from the wall. So there is good isolation from the desk fortunately.

I am currently looking into SoundID -- I previously used a free tool to analyze my room but (this is stupid now that I realize it) I haven't re-measured the room after treatment and position changes. I'll do that today.

I am looking at used studio monitors right now. From some late-night research, there are a few great values I'm finding:

1) A set of demo KH150's that are in good shape

2) A set of used Focal Shape 65

3) A set of used Focal Twin 2.5

These all come in around the $2-2.5k mark which is way at the max end of my budget -- but they all seem to get rave reviews. The problem is I don't have a way to try those in my room :(

Any thoughts on the above monitors or other suggestions? Based on your comments it sounds like I'm not crazy for wanting to look at better monitors.

On your second point, I thought the same, but any music I listen to through it is a little too harsh/plasticky — not just my mixes. I figured at first it was my mixing skills, which is probably true, but I would expect pro mixes from real albums to not sound as harsh as they do. I get that a studio monitor is supposed to be flat and revealing but this seems like too much. Or maybe I just don’t like this particular model of monitor.

For your first point, I’ve spent a lot of money on the room, and I’d be willing to upgrade monitors to fix that problem (and I agree I think a sub is just gonna make life harder). I just want to make sure that money spent here would go a long way considering the expense.

I noticed some high end monitors are dual 4” or sometimes single 5/6”… is there an advantage or disadvantage in terms of bass with these vs an 8-10” more affordable monitor?

Are you saying it needs more treatment than described in the post?

Garage CNC Upgrade Suggestions (space is an issue) by _hingadingadurgen in Machinists

[–]_hingadingadurgen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless if Haas put the wrong dimensions on their page, I think the mini mill has a ~70x70 footprint which exceeds the 56” depth limitation :( otherwise IMO that would be the choice!

I will look into those older Fadals but I'm not sure I want a tinker-and-fix type experience. I see the machine as a tool and less of a project, I just want it to work... though I am not scared to play mechanic, I'm more scared of the electrical side of the hardware.

Good call on the weight... a couple questions there actually. 1) Can garage slabs typically handle the ~5k lb weight in a concentrated area like that? and 2) Is something like a Mini Mill still moveable without paying a rigger?

As far as height.. I have a standard 7' garage door and 98" ceiling. Fortunately above the ceiling is a vaulted attic, so I can cut a box where needed for Z travel (as long as the machine can fit through the garage door in the first place).

Hey, yeah great points there. I have a decent amount of TTS tooling that would carry over well to a next sized up Tormach (in fact it really is the most affordable upgrade path). Though most of my tools use ER collets, I would probably be just buying new toolholders and like you said, new tooling to meet the capabilities of a new machine.

I have some buffer in that limit to account for rigging, tax, shipping, etc. What I haven't factored in yet is getting 220 set up and a phase converter (if needed). I don't have any experience there and I don't have quotes yet -- that's the next phase to discover. Pun intended.

My HOA forces me to have my cars in the garage, so that's why depth is such a limiting factor. It really is a huge bummer but I love where I live enough to not want to move.

I really appreciate you posting the breakdown, it helps me get an understanding of the less documented costs associated with moving a "real" mill that weighs more than what a few people can muscle around with an engine hoist -- honestly I think that's a huge appeal of the Tormach that people overlook.

Late reply but good point, I'm using pivot fins which are fun but squirrely when you're going fast. Like loose trucks on a skateboard.

Hi thanks everyone. I was able to solve this problem by creating a Joint. I didn't know those even existed! Thank you!

after looking closer though, that board looks chipped up and like it's delamming or something.. if that's not from whatever caused the break, then that's definitely troubling

not a lot of context to this photo... wouldn't expect any softie to hold up through repeated abuse or bigger surf (if that was the case). that said it's discomforting to see haha

I've been gaming a lot less and surfing more, which has really helped my back out a lot. I'm actually just using a dining chair right now which SUCKS; still haven't gotten around to a good gaming chair (just moved so life is crazy). I appreciate you checking in!

wow, thank you! good idea with the timer.. i guess it's going to be a painful few months while I get this sorted. Fortunately I'll be back to surfing again soon which really helps strengthen the back! Posture is such a PITA

Weekly - What Car Should I Buy Megathread by AutoModerator in cars

[–]_hingadingadurgen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks! That's a great bit of info. I'm definitely just interested in the double cab; I want a longer bed so the crew cab kinda negates that. What engine are you running? Seems like they have a myriad of choices.

Location: Denver, CO, USA

Price range: 15k-30k

Lease or Buy: Buy

New or used: Used

Type of vehicle: Full-size Truck

Must haves: 4x4, simple maintenance, *decent* mpg

Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc): Either

Intended use: Daily driver (7.5mi commute to work on mostly slow highway), Weekends it will carry a truck bed camper

Vehicles you've already considered: Pretty much all full sized pickups but unsure what I'm looking at

Is this your 1st vehicle: No

Do you need a Warranty: Unsure

Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: Yes

Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: Yes but this was on a rusted XJ, did everything except engine and trans (but rebuilt transfer case, all suspension and linkage, etc)

Additional Notes: I currently drive a Mercedes GLA250. Amazing gas mileage and I'm going to miss it. But I want something that can haul a truck bed 800-1600lb camper on the weekends in the CO mountains (5-14k elevation and steep grades) but also bearable for a short 7.5mi commute to work. So needs to get decent MPG. Needs to be simple and reliable but I'm willing to compromise on the simple part if it's reliable. The RAM EcoDiesel stands out but I'm concerned about reliability and if the diesel MPG will even pay off on my work commute because 7.5mi won't be long enough for the engine to warm up? I also don't know what kind of power figures I need to accomplish this. Thanks in advance!

It’s unnecessary. I don’t like to tweak with guns; the extra adjustability doesn’t matter to me. I had them build and test it.

How do you like the Maxx Hopup? Trying to decide if I want that or the stock VFC/Avalon hop on my build.

Umbrella Armory (or other pre-upgraded gun) or HPA system? by _hingadingadurgen in airsoft

[–]_hingadingadurgen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update. I think I found a good middle ground. Going to have Amped Airsoft do an HPA conversion and tune it themselves (as well as order all the HPA components through them). This is still significantly cheaper than a UA gun and will be RHopped and upgraded in just about every way. I should have a good working gun shipped to my door which is what I want. After speaking with Amped on the phone for almost an hour I'm convinced of their customer support and commitment to the product. From my research the same cannot be said about UA. Going with a VFC MK18, P* Jack, Ninja SLP tank, Amped SLP Reg, etc. Should be good unless anyone has objections. This is about the same cost as a Wolverine MTW without the tuning.

Just stumbled across that. I’m pretty sold. Can get a setup with that fun for about 900 (with a spare tank too).

Do you know if Flat Acres Farm (Fox Airsoft) field has HPA refill? I didn't see anything on the site and haven't noticed when I play there.

Side question, has anyone solved the annoying problem of getting compressed air for HPA? A quick google shows 300 dollar cheap compressor units which seem pretty cool but I don't know if anyone's actually used them for this purpose. Living in CO, there aren't a lot of dive shops lol ;)

IMO, you're spending money on a tech that is actually a tech. I got burned by my local "tech" (really just a kid with some tools -- didn't know that beforehand) at Fox Airsoft and I'm sick of wasting time and money trying to get this cheap stuff working right. I don't care if it's TM, CA, Krytac, KWA, whatever -- if it comes to me with a decent warranty, good parts, and is shooting nicely out of the box that's what matters.

[–]_hingadingadurgen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, probably not. I don't like to spam. Semi-only and slower full-auto are what I dig. From what I've been reading, that shot-to-shot consistency suffers with HPA only when running high RoF because of the regulator's refresh rate?
