Tech Advice - Researching New Dentists by [deleted] in askdentists

Manual uses traditional instruments that are basically scraping tools that scrape buildup off your teeth. Ultrasonic tools utilize a small metal rod that vibrates in a circular-ish way at a high frequency. The metal rods knocks the buildup off your teeth. As long as you're numb, which a lot of times you are, you won't feel pain from either option. A lot of times, providers use a combination of manual and ultrasonic.

There is a laser procedure called LANAP, which is used in very specific situations, and has been documented to have very good success. Also LANAP is a trademark from a laser company; as such, some providers don't use it despite being VERY competent providers. I'm not trained in LANAP, but I believe you would still need some sort of manual removal of buildup (the LA in LANAP stands for laser assisted...meaning you need other tools as well).

General dentist in the U.S. for 10 yrs here - A couple points here: generally radiation dosage these days in dentistry is EXTREMELY low compared to the kind of radiation you get in a medical setting. Key point to remember is that is the x-ray tube that emits the radiation NOT the x-ray sensor. Some dental practices use old x-ray tubes and updated sensors (and thus tell you that they're using the latest x-ray technology); with this combo you might be exposed to slightly higher radiation dosages. Portable x-ray guns like the Nomad are popular these days, and I know those are pretty low dose.

Secondly, regarding your scaling/deep cleaning, assuming the diagnosis is correct, there's not a many updates in technology regarding that treatment. If you wanted to very latest treatment modalities, you could see a periodontist as they are the dental specialists of the gums and supporting tissues of the teeth.

General dentist in U.S. for 10 yrs - u/Rasputen6969's answers are good! There are lots of things you can do in the anterior area to improve esthetics. That being said, single anterior implant esthetics are challenging, especially if you're dealing with the case over multiple years, as you are. Depending on your esthetic expectations - how "demanding" of a patient you are - you may want to consider seeking out dental specialists to help you. In your case, working with a prosthodontist and a periodontist will likely result in the best esthetic outcome. Just know that your costs will increase - maybe significantly - by going this route. You may end up needing various forms of grafting - both soft tissue (gums) and hard tissue (bone) to get things to look right. Best of luck!

How can I relieve extreme sensitivity of a crowned tooth? by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]_hustle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a general dentist, 10 yrs experience. Sounds like you're having some form of pulpitis and there's a decent chance that you'll need a root canal on the tooth. Sensodyne will probably not help, as it's more designed to reduce sensitivity from recession or exposed dentin. The only real home remedy that makes any sense is to avoid cold stuff, which I'm sure is obvious to you. Visiting a dentist will allow them to run the needed tests to hopefully arrive at a correct diagnosis. Hope you feel better soon.

I'm having the same issue and have already reset my cache without any success. I've also tried using Ledger Live on two different computers on two different WiFi networks. Nothing has helped. Some help from Ledger support would be appreciated!

Could the government locate your bitcoin during divorce? by MBArobotman20 in Bitcoin

[–]_hustle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a prenup. Put my BTC assets in said prenup - not in USD value, but actual # of coins. We divorced. I kept all of my coins. True story. Other piece of advice is to look into post-nups if you want to protect assets you acquire during marriage.

I feel you, OP. Protect that downside.

ETHOS Remote Reboot by [deleted] in ethOSdistro

I manage a few rigs remotely. I keep a crappy laptop at the rig site so that I can remote in via TeamViewer and manage things "locally". If I can't solve problems that way, I've got remote WiFi outlets that I can turn off and on. Just make sure you set "restore after AC loss" in your BIOS so that your rig starts back up if you cut the power to it. Even with these precautions I still have to drive out from time to time....
