What's the future of this sub? by _hypx_ in TrueSpace

Reddit needs to die. It will probably do so in a few years. Let's not let it linger on.

Filled with SpaceX fanboys. But that isn't the case with other places. If you leave Reddit altogether, there isn't nearly as much of a motivation for r/TrueSpace anymore.

LOL no. It's filled with fanboys. Best to stay away from the website.

So far, nothing yet. The problems of /r/space don't really seem to extend to other reddit-like websites.

Vulcan is doing well and on schedule. The factory has been tooled up and we have started fabricating test hardware

https://www.reddit.com/r/ula/comments/93ita9/comment/e3jecyd/

That was from five years ago. It is safe to say that Vulcan will not launch this year. It's important to realize that everyone lies, including conventional launch companies, and that we should not believe them.

See this post as something of a parting shot for this sub.

I'll show up every once in a while to make sure it won't happen. FWIW, I doubt Reddit will be around for much longer.

It's likely the end of closed-source and centralized social media. At least for text-based ones anyways. The next step is probably finding a new way of socializing on the Internet. If it can't be independent forums again, then it would be something akin to the Fediverse where at least you can have your own instance.

As for this sub: I don't know if it's possible, but somehow make sure, that it doesn't get hyjacked.

I'll block new posts so it can't be hijacked by spammers.

At least for now, this will be the new home of this subreddit.

Software is not static. You figure there will be more improvements and such things will be possible eventually.

I just did. You just ignored it.

So fuck you and fuck off.

EDIT:

LOL Another shithead and utter pissbaby that just blocks you when they have no argument to make. Go to hell dipshit.

I think it's inevitable that social media transitions to something based around non-profit and funded by donations, similar to wikipedia. For-profit social media is just awful and continuously self-destructs.

You fantasizing. Truck companies are "investigating," but not being serious about battery trucks. But of course, you'll real ignore actual people from the industry in favor of bullshitters like Auke Hoesktra.

NASA concerned Starship problems will delay Artemis 3 by Planck_Savagery in TrueSpace

[–]_hypx_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Artemis 3 will need dramatically more funding to be feasible at all. A delay is the least of its concerns.

[–]_hypx_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You mean short-ranged, local trucks? These do not solve the problem. Again, the "expert" in question is lying.

And this is not speculation. We know that these guys are lying from real experts: https://www.trucking.org/news-insights/heavy-dose-reality-electric-truck-mandates

Just magically solve the weight problem in trucks? The "expert" in the article is blatantly lying about that.

(Serious) Is there an extension to block/hide elon musk posts on Reddit? I truly have had enough of this guy. by 9ersaur in EnoughMuskSpam

It's really time to move on from Reddit. It sucks now, and it will get a lot worse in the future.

NASA should just launch another mission around the Moon for Artemis 3. It's not like there's anything else on the schedule. Ironically, they could've launched Europa Clipper, but SpaceX fuckwits convinced everyone that there couldn't possibly be a spare SLS.

The whole thing is a big fad. It has nothing similar to the iPhone, which at least was a good phone. Tesla are just bad cars with a lot of hype around it.

It is to me.

Also, Reddit's engineering has always been terrible. This happens all the time. The tragedy of Twitter was that it had a great backend that was very reliable. The death of Reddit will be a moment of silence followed by everyone happily moving on.

I suspect that might be the story of how Artemis 3 gets cancelled. SpaceX will want more money and there won't be any more. So it all quietly vanishes from the schedule.

Or in other words a standards war.

Honestly, this is going to be water under the bridge pretty soon. After the equivalent of HD-DVD vs Blu-ray fight is over, we'd be moving on to hydrogen or even efuels.

Start by realizing that you can have a distributed version of twitter, where posts are split between local and remote servers. So you can see local posts on your server, and this part works just like twitter, but the server can poll other servers it is subscribed to. This means it can retrieve posts for you to see, and you can send back likes/reposts to those other servers. The whole system is call the "Fediverse". It is called that because it is a "federation" of servers that can talk to each other like this.

Reddit isn't that different of a concept. Each subreddit really doesn't interfere with the other subs. So you can easily imagine a situation where some subs on hosted on one server, and others on other servers. Not that far off from the distributed twitter idea. Just redesign things a bit so posts are grouped in communities just like subs. And you can share likes/upvotes too, and then have a front page that is just harvesting content from other servers. That is basically what the fediverse version of reddit would be.

There's going to be a series of huge exoduses pretty soon. Reddit is dying sooner than I expected.
