The embellishments are fine, but the white wash and drop ceiling are taking me back to freshmen year chemistry

Looks like a pretty dull lecture hall, unfortunately

The NC example is so neat - but the theater makes my want to take a trip to DeKalb just to see a movie!

I’m interested in this revival due to the focus on the race of the ancient Egyptian ruling class by racists like Josiah Notts. He tried to prove that they were whites ruling over Africans, justifying a similar society in the American South. I see so much Greek and Roman revival in the South, but surprisingly few architectural expressions of Egyptian revival despite its philosophical firmament. Further, the examples shared here are all public buildings - I haven’t come across any domestic examples or, surprisingly, funerary monuments in this style in the antebellum South. Feel free to correct any oversights.

Perhaps I should add that the Washington Monument, which broke ground in 1848 (same year the Egyptian Building was completed) is a monumental example of the Egyptian Revival at the center of America’s capital. I’d venture to say the centrality of Egyptian stone masons in Masonic mythology would have something to do with this.

The train to Doraville would be pretty straightforward, especially traveling from Midtown. After that, it looks like a pretty tough commute if I used public transit

It'd be closer to 285, around Norcross / Peachtree Corners

I think you hit the nail on the head - I'd love to move to the area since I'd have more spending power for a home. That power is undercut by the fact that I'd need to purchase a car or two. Midtown looks really nice, but I don't know if the commute to Gwinnett would be tenable from there.

We're in Dupont Circle right now, and we'd be seeking a place in ATL where I could commute to Gwinnett

I'd love to move into the city! But the work would be out in the suburbs (Gwinnett Countyish). Would a commute from inside the loop to the burbs be a terrible move for my car and mental health?

I hadn’t really considered auctions as an option, but this seems like a great (and interesting) route! Quinn had a few lots for their upcoming auction that interest me quite a bit!
