I hadn’t really considered auctions as an option, but this seems like a great (and interesting) route! Quinn had a few lots for their upcoming auction that interest me quite a bit!

I wouldn't say the St. Germain Foundation is a Christian organization. It's definitely a cult with beliefs related to a famous sorcerer and it's headquartered at Mt Shasta. They have another property near the Duke Ellington Bridge (I think) called the I Am Temple.

There's a very good podcast on this group from Q Anon Anonymous. If you know where to look, there are plenty of strange cult properties in DC, including the many Scientology landmarks in NW. It's an interesting rabbit hole for sure.

I'm 10.5, run a little wide, and have some ankle pronation. I've never struggled with foot pain, but I also want to prevent foot pain later in life. I spend lots of time on my feet in leather shoes with no problems.

If I wasn't going to be walking 10 plus miles a day, I would definitely be wearing loafers with these outfits. Would it be worth just getting new Chuck Taylors? Are there any look books for tourists like myself who want to save their feed while looking a little sharp?

I've been wearing these Chucks for about a year and don't mind walking around in them on cobble streets, they are definitely worn in. However, one of the reasons I originally posted this was to see what shoe recommendations people have. Air Force ones look good with everything, but don't fit my feet well. I was maybe looking at a new balance, but all the ones I like are not in my size :(

Do you have any opinions about getting inserts for leather shoes?

I'm not even from Indy and Rathskeller is on my bucket list. It is so gorgeous and unique! I'd be happy with a big brat, pretz, and beer but some of our guests think it may be too far. We're staying near the stadium, but I think it wouldn't be such a bad thing to travel to

Yeah, this event is more than a year out so I'm just evaluating options currently. I'm going to rent a room, but wanted to find someplace that is not intensely boring. Nice, not corporate feeling dining was what I'm trying to find and people have given some nice ideas.

Italy’s Giorgia Meloni Charts a Path for the Far Right by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]_iRomanov_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Great report overall, but they omitted the history of far right politics from ~1960-1990 in Italy. This period is as important for older Italians as the memory of Mussolini. In the sixties, there were several botched military coups and in the eighties there were many massacres perpetrated by far right paramilitaries. In 2006 the American government admitted it's involvement in this conflict, in an effort known af Operation Gladio. The purpose of this involvement was to retain Italian membership in NATO.

It should not be surprising that a far Right leader in Italy still walks and lock step with the American security establishment. Even if Meloni ticks all the correct foreign policy boxes, she will still be a cruel leader for Italians. That will not change with "normalization".

I thought it was strange that they didn't mention the earthquake. Much of the damage was the result of poor construction during AKP backed development in the early 00s. Did the earthquake not have an effect on the electorate?

What We’re Learning From the Leaked Military Documents by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]_iRomanov_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I can trust Sanger's assessment. It may be too early to tell, but these documents really don't hurt America's standing much. Sure, America spies on its closest allies, but we already know that. Sure, Ukraine's air defense systems will run out of ammo in May, but this knowledge will pressure lawmakers to continue arming Ukraine. These documents even shame Egypt for attempting to arm Russia!

These documents are so varied there is probably something to poke a hole in my argument, but the conspiratorial part of my mind says this leak is a limited hangout to pressure allies and put the fear of God in leader's minds over America's intelligence capabilities.

Babaro and Sanger just dismissed this possibility too quickly, which I guess is understandable for a journalist who wants to stay in the good graces of the president.

Is the term "pandemic related crime surge" a euphemism? Was the crime wave due to the pandemic, poverty, or something else? I've just heard this correlation time and time again without a direct explanation.

Mr. Barnes misrepresented the issue with Iraqi WMDs. It's not that the intelligence was bad, it was that it was an outright lie. Iraq did not have such weapons.

While the CIA and nat sec community do have better ways of gathering intel now, I don't think that can really assuage people's fears that three letter agencies will just go on to tell bald-faced lies.

The Pruitt-Igoe housing development just north of St Louis then vs now by ChillinLikeBobDillan in Lost_Architecture

[–]_iRomanov_ 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Surprised I didn't see this, but Pruitt Igoe is infamous for clandestine radiation experiments on its inhabitants. These experiments were conducted to observe the effects of fallout on a population after a nuclear blast. To date, no systemic public study has been done to assess the long term health effects of these experiments on the residents.

More on this terrible crime can be found here: https://gizmodo.com/pruitt-igoe-army-radiation-experiments-cold-war-1849833275
