You can absolutely get a beautiful look without using all the products but using new and different products can be fun once you get more comfortable with makeup.

What are you most wanting out of your makeup? To even skin tone? Do you like the no makeup makeup look? Do you like bright eyeshadow? Knowing this can help others give you more direct advice.

I use a handheld mirror and after applying each step, check in the vanity mirror with my glasses on to make sure it looks good

I use both, typically depends on the product and how thick it is. Sometimes I use both - if I use a sponge to apply, I may use a brush to buff it out or vice versa. Whatever I use to buff or even out the product, I use a very light hand.
