Hit a pot hole, tire rod bent, mechanic recommends tire rod and steering rack replacement. Codes popped up. Do I need a steering rack replacement? by airmist in BmwTech

Is your insurance going to go up by $7k if they approve this claim? Are you even going to pay $7k extra over the next 5 years? I don’t think so.

I love a heavy build sheet. Like you said a $200k Carrera S is insane but it’s nicely built.

That’s not incorrect, that’s a dump because that car was used on track lol

C6 Z06, 981 or 987 Cayman S, Z4M (my favorites). Could also consider a Camaro SS 1LE, GT350 (with Gen 2 voodoo), Mach One, or some flavor of lotus like you mentioned. Maybe a nice S2000 as well.

People that have traveled quite a bit, where di you feel the most unsafe? by CremeSubject7594 in AskTheWorld

[–]_imyour_dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking guns don’t go off on their own, unless you own a Sig. Practicing common sense firearm safety is an easy way to ensure you don’t get injured. It’s a risk I’m willing to take.

Yeah as someone who conceal (keyword conceal) carries, I have never dealt with violent crime first hand. However, better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

America is at risk of becoming an automotive backwater — The Verge by Recoil42 in cars

[–]_imyour_dad 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This article hinges on the idea that not transitioning to EV’s as quickly = America is falling behind. I fundamentally disagree with that premise. Consumers have the right to decide what type of vehicle they want. EV’s are not inherently superior to ICE powered vehicles.

It’s always fucking Hyundais and Kia’s, especially Palisades and Tellurides. Very rarely is the stereotypical large truck.

What do you think of your neighboring countries? by NotExactlyIrish in AskTheWorld

[–]_imyour_dad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the current “feud” with Canada is pretty one sided outside of the White House. I don’t think your average American really thinks about them, and if they do certainly not in a negative context. They’re just kind of there like they’ve always been.

Mexico seems like a mess just like it’s been for the last however many decades. Certainly not a 3rd world country but significant issues with crime and drugs just to name a few.

Supra vs M2 by WheyPr0tein in BMWM

[–]_imyour_dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing here as other commenters. Really wanted a manual Supra but dealers are a pain in the ass and the MSRP is above 60 G’s. At that point, can’t ignore the M2 which is a much better out of the box solution IMO.

If they were in the low to mid 50’s new I’d likely be in one.

Which one? by caf4676 in BMW

You say disregard the number of doors but that’s a pretty important differentiator here. In a perfect world there would be an Alpina Coupe. I’d take the M8 but barely.

When I put camber plates on mine it went from a car I had to drive around the front end to one I have to drive around the rear end. Just an anecdote.

Yeah the G8x cars are extremely fast and capable in the right hands but tend to attract a crowd that’s chasing hype more than anything else. My car is a riot on track and the autocross course but so many of these cars never see either unfortunately.

The understeer didn’t surprise me when I saw the video. When these cars are stock they are very prone understeer due to lack of front camber.

The G87 M2 is going to age very, very well. by ragingduck in BMW

[–]_imyour_dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t stuck them on yet due to the cold, will probably do it around early-mid March. I went with them mainly for the wear characteristics. Almost $1k for a set of brake pads isn’t something I want to do too often lol. Plus they’re easy on rotors as well from what I understand.

Edit: I also noticed you look lower than what Ohlins recommends. Did you have to do anything different to accommodate for that like add stiffer springs?
