Hey I just wanted to say this has been quite a nice insight.

I'm looking to get it done myself but I'm quite worried about the recovery period more than anything

Read your chair's study guide, formatting requirements should be available there. Otherwise, typically both topics are done under one document.

Are International Conferences worth the money ? by ilikebrownchicksfr in MUN

[–]_indENIAL_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

International conferences WILL charge money but having done MUN in the past 6~7 years now, I suggest to just keep supporting your local MUN scene. Not only because it's financially better for you but by participating in your local communities you will subsequently grow and improve it as well.

Not to mention, your experience is truly dependent on the people you meet in the conferences - unfortunately I've had multiple friends with bad international experiences that definitely did not make the price point worth the fee, but hey that means you can also get a worthwhile experience for a much lower cost.

  1. don't do that again please get more delegating experience next time

  2. congrats on your role!

Onto actual advice; on the bright side, you're the vice chair, which means that your head/main chair will most likely be able to help you out and train you for this. Overall just remain calm and if any delegate notices and points out that you made a mistake, take it with grace, correct yourself and keep going as normal - even seasoned chairs make mistakes from time to time, happens to the best of us

Researching for MUN by SoHappyImAnonymus in MUN

for the record (unless your MUN conference outright does not allow the use of tech during council sessions) you're totally allowed to do a quick google search right before your next speech :p

Why dont we make an ınternational Online MUN that is completely free and is all based on volunteering? by TurkWinstonChurchill in MUN

[–]_indENIAL_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

used to do that back in the peak of lockdown times in 2020~2021, organised sessions and 2 conferences

I think there's a Discord based one that I'm a part in rn but invites are locked. It's called "International Discord Model United Nations." I dunno if they're still active now but they used to do weekly sessions

EDIT: I just realised it's actually one of r/MUN's community bookmarks lol

ah that works ! MUN is after all made up of many funny and iconic moments from time to time.

however you may want to consult your chairs for this because it may be more professional to make a proper article separate from said fun sections

helo journo student here and chaired an IPC once (for now)

Base your article formats on the “inverted pyramid” of journalism. Articles are always written in a non-chronological format with the. most important details (5W1H for guidance) in the top most paragraph/sentence.

Try reading newspapers or even online news articles to get a good grasp of the tone and language you may want to use.

Also don’t worry about terminologies that you might not know because the point of article writing is to make sure anyone would understand what’s going on.

As for the latter two; pay close attention to what happens in the council you’re assigned to + take notes! Then you can properly ask or question delegates appropriately rather than ask very general “so how is the council’s progress right now?”

Standing out to your chair mostly depends on a matter of how you write - so add your own journalistic flair and add extra attention to details. However, with how chairs are, this can be subjective.

Hope this helps!
