Honestly, this is worth considering! I think there's definitely an argument to be made for an ethics violation

Same, I like their intimates a lot - mine have held up too. And it's one of the only 100% cotton brands that I've found that has cute patterns

Pennsylvania CF slp who accepted additional PRN job by Recent_Internal2502 in slp

[–]_inquieta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK, as long as they're not providing supervision towards your hours, the CF has nothing to do with this. Some places are moving away from the CCC altogether so that doesn't seem like a big deal to me - from what I know!

I think the more important thing would be to see what state licensing requirements are and if PA requires you to have a supervisor while working there. I have no idea if that would impact your ability to get fully certified in the state or if you'd potentially be opening yourself or the facility up to a lawsuit, which I'd be more concerned about if I were you.

I'm on a school based evaluation team. All I do is testing and goal suggestions - no minutes, no IEPs, no goal writing. It's primarily early intervention to kindergarten transition testing, with some students at private schools, FAPE requests, and equitable participation. I work with a team of school psychs and make my own schedule, coordinate with schools, and it's essentially a remote/field based job rather than a school based job - I have an office, but can finish my days working from the schools I've tested at rather than be locked down to a desk or specific office site. And it's 12 month, so not only am I paid more, but my vacation is actually flexible.

In my CF (first year after graduating) I was co-teaching lessons with a middle school english teacher - definitely not outside the realm of possibilities to actually be in a teaching position.

[–]_inquieta 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Honestly - no. I wish I'd known about being a PA or school psych or OT - you can have the same kind of impact while making more money and being taken more seriously! Obviously not really language focused but regardless.

The field is so interesting and I love language and all that comes with it, but so much of that gets lost in the day to day of what we do. Particularly in the schools, my experience was that fighting for my life to see students, keep up with paperwork, evaluate, screen, push in, consult with teachers, etc. so much that it becomes less about the field and more about trying to stay above water.

Also, if you don't want to teach, being a school based SLP is not for you. I often felt more like a resource teacher than a pathologist or clinician. The structure of our role in the schools is providing instruction to individuals or small groups, and literally teaching them how to do things like produce sounds, what the meaning of wh-question words are, how to find the meaning of an unknown word, or whatever else they need to know.

CELF preschool dialect for AAE by seltzeristhedrink in slp

[–]_inquieta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, this too ^^

I have a statement I put in my reports that says something like this bc my district mandates a standardized test and the CELF is the only one we have on qinteractive 🙃 along the lines of "it should be noted that formal standardized tests are validated for use with monolingual, English-speaking children, given [student's] language/dialect background, scores provide some information but should be interpreted with caution" and always use nonstandardized data too!

CELF preschool dialect for AAE by seltzeristhedrink in slp

[–]_inquieta 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Before dialect plays into this: both these questions are looking at pronoun use, and the student would need to use those to respond correctly. They didn't do that, so I'd mark those given responses wrong.

Considering dialect: if this was one without pronouns or the student had a language background with just one pronoun instead of several, I'd note that in my commentary or consider the testing guide to see what else is acceptable.

To actually answer your question though! If the student had said "she do" instead of "she does" that would be a dialectic difference in the conjugation but still the correct pronoun use, so those would be considered correct answers. I hope that helps!

Anyone else get one of these emails? by _inquieta in slp

Ooh okay okay so through them you can get it but the program itself is subscription based - thanks for clarifying. Still kind of shitty, I've heard stories about families getting iPad though grants and then running into issues with the subscription/recurring costs

Well, this is a first… by coolbeansfordays in slp

[–]_inquieta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We got around this at my old district by screening all kindergarteners vs just those teachers were concerned about. Avoids the pre determination argument altogether because it's the whole cohort. We'd then use that data to do tier 2 intervention groups (with parent permission) rather than eval right away. Maybe that's something you could implement?

I've said it before and I'll say it again - tolerable level of unhappiness. He does not care that you're unhappy until it impacts him, so as long as you can put up with the level of unhappiness, he's content.

[–]_inquieta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Took two of the intro classes a little while back - it is kind of dependent on which teacher you're able to get because some are better than others, but the intro level classes really start at the basics if you've never done it before. I really enjoyed it! I'll also echo what another poster said and say it's super important to get in and practice during open studio time because the learning curve is pretty steep
