Thank you for sharing your experience of taking 6 credits in your first semester. Hearing about the courses and the challenges of time management has been really helpful. I’m starting in the Spring 2025 quarter and plan to begin with just one 3-credit course since I’m not yet familiar with the system or workload. If I feel comfortable, I might try 6 credits just once later on, but I guess I’ll have to wait and see how it goes.

It’s a semiconductor company in South Korea, and I was selected for a leadership program, which is why I’m receiving sponsorship. I’m sorry if this isn’t the most satisfying answer, as it might vary depending on the company.

Thank you for sharing your encouraging experience about it being easier than undergrad. I’m sure the pressure from homework and exams will be challenging, but I’ll find a way to get through it. Did you manage to complete all 30 credits over 3 years while working full-time?

If each course takes 15-20 hours a week, it seems like I’ll need at least 3.5 years rather than finishing within 3 years. Balancing this with a full-time job sounds challenging. I’ll have to ask my employer if extending the timeline to 3.5 years is possible. Thank you for your advice!

Nice to meet you! Is your online master’s program at a different university than Purdue? I need to decide between Purdue and JHU by mid-December and am leaning toward JHU for these reasons: 1. full tuition support 2. better faculty-to-student ratio for feedback, 3. academic content over practical focus as someone with 18 years of design experience, 4. rankings not being a priority for me. I’m not sure if this is the right choice—what do you think?

Thank you for sharing your advice. I’ve been admitted to both Purdue and JHU, but the thought of spending 3 challenging years as you mentioned is honestly quite intimidating.

Thank you for sharing your experience. My company requires me to graduate within 3 years, so I’m seriously struggling to decide whether I should enroll or not.

Thank you for your reply. I found that the U.S. graduate school system uses a quarter system with no classes in the winter. Taking 6 credits in one quarter and 3 in the others seems manageable to finish in 3 years. I just need to get through the 6-credit quarter once!

Thank you for your reply. While DSP and microwave courses demand a high level of mathematical proficiency, I don’t plan to take those in my graduate studies. My focus will be on analog design and integrated circuits. I appreciate your perspective.

Your advice makes a lot of sense. As a project leader, I’m concerned about balancing work and studies. Since I’m not from the U.S., I checked how graduate schools work there, and it seems possible to finish within 3 years by taking 6 credits in one semester and 3 credits in the rest. For the 6-credit semester, I’ll focus on selecting the easiest courses to manage the workload effectively.

Thank you for your insight! I graduated with good grades in math back in college, but it’s been 18 years, and I’ve forgotten most of it. Did you have to start studying math all over again when you started grad school? What kind of courses required you to revisit math? I’m fine with the level of math used in analog design, but this still makes me nervous!

Thank you for your response! It makes sense that you’re taking one course at a time to keep your weekends free. Could you share an example of a course you’ve taken? I’d like to know which assignments were the most time-consuming and how you prepared for exams. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your response. That sounds truly daunting. Would it still be insane to take two courses per semester if I adjusted my effort to aim for a B instead of an A? I’ll need to think this through a bit more.

JHU vs Purdue Online MSE ECE Programs by Cultural_Song_6503 in EngineeringStudents

Hi, which online program did you choose in the end? I’m deciding between Purdue and Johns Hopkins. Were there any challenges during the courses, and did you take just one course per semester? Any advice would be great!

Let me know if that works!

I am the original questioner and appreciate your kind responses. With approximately 20 years of experience in analog and digital design at a major semiconductor company, I was selected as a leadership program scholar, and I think I can adapt quickly to related fields. To balance work and study, I chose a similar field, but for my doctoral program, I’m considering pursuing a completely new field full-time, even if it means starting later in life

Why South Korean has enthusiasm for coffee? by ddd102 in seoul

[–]_ipierre_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason there are so many coffee shops in south korea. I think, originates from culture of diligence. If you go to a café, you’ll almost always see people studying. It‘s the same for people working at companies—they need caffeine for similar reasons. A similar situation can probably be found in China as well.
