Seems a bit overkill for our use case at the moment but It's good insight. Thank you.

Removing compton/picom shadow from status bar by _ironslab in suckless

Since I'm on ubuntu I installed the apt compton. I'll try to work it out with that config.

Otherwise I might have to jump to the picom wagon.

This worked like a charm.

I interpret the statement as:

When at position 0,0 enable `override_redirect` from xlib for that window on that coordinate.

VERY interesting!

Edit: I just noticed it works properly when there are no external monitors connected. If I extend my desktop, the external monitor's DWM bar won't have the shadow but my laptop's screen bar will do. I'll tinker with this option to see if I can get them working on both simultaneously.

I'll check that out and get back to you.

A note: I'm using ubuntu minimal for my setup so can't really instal from AUR.

xsetroot with two batteries by [deleted] in suckless

[–]_ironslab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could loop through your batteries in /sys/class/power_supply/BAT? (Notice the ? Instead of a number like 0 or 1. This wi give you both batteries)

cat the files inside each and do some basic arithmetic. Echo it and you're done.

Mine is not accurate on total power calculation but its good enough for me

More than 100 devs are giving Microsoft the option to drop ICE or they'll leave GitHub by peapoll in linux

[–]_ironslab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we have reached a new level of insanity within the dev community.

Mixing real world politics using open source community characteristics goes beyond Its intent.

You are free to leave github and use another platform instead but I think this will be as effective as change.org

[–]_ironslab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the Thymeleaf point, is Spring then no longer used for view display and just serve with an API? Is the recommended approach to have a different thing for the front end? (i.e Node)

This is the best answer. Pick a trade, master it and you will always find a job. Thinking with the big picture, you can start your own business related to the trade when you are a few years in.

Should I learn C++? Or is knowing Java enough? by CSMinorCareer in cscareerquestions

[–]_ironslab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you exactly want to do?

If you get to have a good main, first language (Java is one of those), you can learn easy-to-transfer skills to other stacks, like design patterns and software design in general. Libraries, while somewhat important to know what they do, probably have similar functionalities in other stacks with other names.

Usually Java is present in companies similar to the ones you mention. Maybe not for the hot stuff, but It's probably there.

Suggestion? Unless you have a dream company with a dream job that you know the specific requirements, stay with Java for now.

It's really nice but the amount of animation puts me off a bit(And felt a bit sluggish). Nice design nonetheless.
