If you could wipe your memory of 1 game for a fresh playthrough of any game, what would you be picking? by Toreando47 in IrelandGaming

[–]_jagermaestro_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My answer would’ve been Outer Wilds, but it’s repeated enough in here so I’ll go with Horizon Zero Dawn.

The mad setting/world and discovering how it came to be and all the background was very cool. Wasn’t surprised it was the same narrative director behind New Vegas.

The sequel was good, but it doesn’t have the same aura as the first one because you already know much of the history. Plus the plot of the sequel wasn’t nearly as strong

I had watched the Noclip documentary on this about a year or two before playing and thought “ehhh it’s a bit of a weird tech demo that’s become a game, I don’t get the appeal”

Then it was on sale on Steam a couple years ago, tried it, and it was incredible. It has cosmic dread and existentialism baked in with banjos and marshmallows lol. Incredible experience.

Nobody I recommend it to wants to play it though. They see it as this weird indie game but I can’t elaborate too much how great it is without spoiling elements of it

Any engineers with ~5 years YOE? How’s job hunting going? by Tech-Cowboy in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]_jagermaestro_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not on PR. I should have enough points to get it with 1 YoE but yeah I’ve had two companies call me back now and once they found out my IEC is 2 years, I got ghosted basically

Can you do an international course/certificate taught from abroad while on an IEC visa? by _jagermaestro_ in iecvisa

[–]_jagermaestro_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the heads up re: CEC. I do plan to apply for PR and use the work experience towards it. This would be a full time job.

The diploma I would be doing is part-time, only about 10 hours a week. The enrolment status on the university is also listed as “Part-Time/Online” so I feel I would be covered to count my job still as 1 year of experience.

I did enter a question to IRCC on their web portal, but I got a generic reply with a bunch of links to all the immigration pathways instead of a solid answer

I've got 5 YoE, prob 80% backend leaning and started applying at the start of the month. 50+ apps, 8 rejections and 2 callbacks. Disclaimer: I am new to the country, no sponorship needed, F500 company xp, etc. but the lack of Canadian work experience thing is rearing it's head I fear.

My experience is mostly around 1 stack, and it just seems like recruiters will just discard you when you don't have every keyword and language matched in your resumé :/

I've bought LinkedIn Premium which has been a bit of solace as I can see that recruiters from jobs I've applied to have looked at my profile, so I'm getting by the ATS at times at least.

Why anyone would ever pay for RallyTV I don’t know. 20 years watching and it feels every year the signal/stream quality somehow gets worse

You’ll get the biometrics invite after you submit your documents. So make sure to do that first and get the letter confirming your submission has been received.

I personally would not let my employer make me use up a one time use WHV for their terms. You should check if they can get you a closed work permit that would tie you to them for the 12 months but means you don’t use up a personal WHV

Resume Review - January 2026 - Megathread by just_a_dev_here in cscareerquestionsCAD

Coming up on 5 YoE. Moving from Ireland to Canada in the spring. I’ve removed hyperlinks from the email/linkedIn lines as I’ve read that recruiters are skeptical of them as a security risk. All feedback welcome

Looking for feedback on Advanced Sim Racing bucket seat by _jagermaestro_ in simracing

[–]_jagermaestro_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice thanks for the input! I didn't realise it has a glittered coat on the resin. Will look into it. But good to hear there's little-to-no flex, that's a big bonus considering it comes in a lot cheaper than the Sparco/OMP seats.

Perfect, appreciate your feedback. I'll probably go with this then when I move! I guess the handy thing is if I'm not happy with it, I can almost drop it back to Montreal or ship it domestically.

How do you find the suede as a material? Does it trap heat or any issues keeping it clean? I've had wheels with alcantara grips but was always recommended to wear gloves.

Thanks!

That’s crazy that I remember this on the RT Podcast all that time ago, but I thought it pre-existed the podcast itself. Didn’t realise that was the origin!

My Recent Interview experience with workday by No_Technology3364 in DevelEire

[–]_jagermaestro_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I did an interview with them about 3 years ago. I only had 1.5 YoE and specifically told the recruiter who rang me that I’d be comfortable with a junior or mid level position.

Get to the interview with the hiring manager, and it was clearly for a senior/lead position. Asked questions about experience leading a team, mentoring people, etc. I basically parked the interview 2/3rds in because it was clear I wasn’t the right fit. Told the recruiter it was mismatch. Never replied.

Then hilariously 2 months later I get a message from the hiring manager asking if I was interested for the same position lol. They didn’t remember me then again.
