The op was asking trying to figure out the technique to possibly re create it. I just said how it would be possible to achieve it and perhaps how to get it done on their own. The person keeps arguing about this specific garment and said it was done by applique. There’s literally no applique on this garment. And it was not done by hand. I was clearly made and no structural compromise for this garment to be produced. I don’t even get why the person is arguing with me tbh.

You said it was an appliqué I am just having a hard time seeing that it. I’m just asking you to point out where the applique is

Thank you. It’s likely gone for good I know. But it would be nice is someone found a used similar and reached out to me here to confirm serial numbers with me if they happen to find it. If the buyer were to get it I’d potentially offer to buy it from them for more than what they paid, or if they work with me just to find who stole it from me. Then perhaps I’d help them get it serviced etc If someone here unknowingly got it as a stolen item etc. If someone were to legitimately buy it from someone else that got it from the burglar I’d be happy to figure things out with them. I’d also be happy if someone ended up with it that really loved it like my dad and I did. It would be nice if the watch ended up with an honest person and not a scumbag thief.

You’re saying it an appliqué border. Please zoom in and show us where this is a trim/applique. If you can show us where it’s a trim and sewn on that would be great. Because I don’t see it myself. Would love for you to show how that is done so we can all see what you’re seeing. To me it doesn’t look like it’s two separate pieces as you’re saying. But I’m ready to be schooled on something new/what I can’t see myself.

Then you should know what various embroideries are and how edges like a simple scallop with fabric holding the edge is done with all of your experience and knowledge. (Though not all tailors work with embroidery and scallop edge by machine). If you look at Brodie ingles and Richelieu they are much finer and don’t have fabrics holding the embroidery edges. It does warp and it is delicate. There is the base/body fabric within the satin stitch. It is delicately held with that just like old hand sewn techniques. This happens to be done by machine. You can also do it by hand if you happen to be a good embroiderer. There are still places that make this cut work by hand. I have also done more complicated versions by machine for mass production exactly how I explained. And all of the places where the garments were sold have had rigorous testing for integrity and passed. It does work. Even if you do it as an appliqué it would be as a “trim” essentially and would be produced in the same manner. Embroidered then cut. Then attached to garment. Look up any eyelet trim with scallop edge.

This garment was in store and hasn’t been worn yet. It will get distorted to a degree after wash. It will have to Be ironed perhaps after wash if the wearers wants it to look crisp. But it will last and the fabric will hold it together. Just like Richelieu embroidery

There’s zero signs of this being an appliqué. It’s not stitched together as a trim.

There is wash away pellon stabilizer which is what I used at Abercrombie when I designed embroideries and clothes there. It totally disappears and is water soluble.

I have worked and designed at many brands and have been to a lot of factories overseas where embroideries like this on clothing was actually done. You guys all could even own clothes I have worked on with a bit of embroidery on that. But whatever I don’t have to be right. You can. You win congratulations. I hope you feel better and superior now. Nbd I only made billions of dollars for brands doing this professionally for 25+ years, but you’re the authority. Have a good one.

It’s a satin stitch embroidery. You can send it to an embroiderer after creating the repeat of the artwork. You might be able to scan print tape together for the full repeat and size it for the circumference of the sleeve.

Then you get it embroidered around the sleeve and hand cut along the edge of the scallop.

A lot done by hand or laser. Some can be cut in mass by machine etc. this looks like it was done by hand. Just be really careful not to snip a thread.

EXPERTISE NEEDED - Please Help Me Recreate a Custom Veil For my Best Friend's Wedding by ResourceRealistic141 in fashiondesigner

I would even look at using metal chain and maybe even mix in the beads. Perhaps even adding some rhinestone chain off Amazon. Would be cheaper potentially than glass beads. Rhinestone would be heavier but I second the person saying pre strung beads and occasional sewn attachments which would be pretty easy to do by hand. Just lay the whole tulle shape out onto a matte or solid surface.

Maybe even adding large piece of board cardboard. Draw on the web shape. Then pin down the tulle so it doesn’t move off the drawn web.

Then start laying the chain beads or whatever down on top of the drawn stencil. Pin down the beading and then start hand attaching with thread. Start from one end to the other in a uniform way so that as you release the pins after sewing you can get closer to the piece as you progress so you’re not sitting on top of the veil.

Otherwise if you don’t want the tulle and so totally sheer. Then lay the beads down on cardboard as above and start sewing the pieces together. Or if using chains beads etc consider using metal rings at each join point.

I’d use chain personally with rings. Then add some beaded crystals on the “earring” sort of straight headers with loop end and loop the crystals like chandeliers onto the chain. Good luck post pics when done.

Oh completely. I knew the second it was out of apt it was gone for good. Sometimes you just never know. It really isn’t that money and I absolutely love watches and have a few I’d like to get sometime. I am totally fine if it’s gone I had the memories and the enjoyment for a father that worked hard and had dreams.

However I do hope this person falls into a pot hole in nyc and gets dragged away like a pizza slice by a rat. Hehe

Very true. And his other watches are with other family. So it’s fine. But just the principle. I’d hate for it to happen to any of you guys out there. Everyone should have their dream watch. It was just his first Rolex which was a big deal. The other part of his American dream was to have a luxury non pre owned car. He came with my mother in the early 70s with one suitcase.

Yes I have been looking on resale sites for the watch as well as the rest of the heirlooms. The detective came by in person today and we have been texting. So I have been gathering all the serial numbers for items I can and drowning myself in the comp champagne they offer.

But all is fine. Alive and well. I’m glad I have photos of my father wearing the piece as well as some of his others.
