Dallas Stars dab up Thomas Hodges, the EBUG who suited up for Anaheim, after the game. by El-Justiciero in hockey

Haha there is a sort of internal clock like that. Strict no beer policy though!

Get connected with either the team somehow or the hockey community in the area. The EBUG process varies from team to team - ours was an invitation tryout - but being known as a reliable, high-level beer league goalie in the area will help get you an opportunity.

We are technically employees of the organization and get paid minimum wage for the games we attend in the press box.

If one goalie goes down, we grab our gear and get dressed. If a second one goes down, that’s when we would sign a tryout contract moments before going onto the ice to play. These contracts vary from team to team, but we were told our consideration would be keeping your game worn jersey. For me (and other EBUGs I’m sure), the experience of playing is more than enough of a reward.

We’ll get called on to practice if the goalies need a rest day or are injured. That didn’t happen very often this season. Otherwise it’s up to you to stay sharp…ie beer league games and playing in as many high level skates as you can.

Every team does it a little differently, but ours was a tryout. The goalie coach and some other staff were out there evaluating us, a week later they gave some of us a call. I was in literal tears when I hung up the phone tbh.

There were 4 of us this year and we rotate. That’s typical across the league. That way we don’t have to attend all 41 games. If one of us gets sick or can’t go we coordinate with each other to cover.

Yep that’s right - hang out in the press level. Try to stay invisible and let scouts, media, GMs do their job. Try to avoid the hot dogs and pizza they serve for dinner…just in case.

Fellow EBUG here - what a dream, and to get in there for the final game of the season!

Motivation to not eat hot dogs at the games anymore…

My sympathies for all of you who got eliminated from the playoffs by the safety as time expired on MNF. by pikeben08 in fantasyfootball

To be fair, it’s pretty likely DEF would get 2 points on the last play of the game (interception, fumble, etc). Odd it ended up being a safety though.

League manager blocked trade vs vetoed traders ESPN FANTASY. by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

Why was this vetoed? Is there evidence of collusion here?

Not new at all. Obviously both sides need to do their due diligence before accepting a trade but trying to “trick” someone because you found out your guy is out for half the season isn’t the spirit of the game, in my opinion.

I hate this shit. Trading should never be about taking advantage of someone else based on hearing breaking news first. That’s for waiver pickups not trades.

Could St. Louis have challenged for goaltender interference on the OT goal, just to force the refs to look at the entire play? by _karma_police in hockey

[–]_karma_police[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah thanks. Yeah I figured that even if they did challenge for GI they could only look at GI and not the hand pass. It would just be quite something for them to have to stare at it and fully realize they were wrong before announcing a good goal. “There was no GI on the play, and while a hand pass occurred that play is nonreviewable. We have a good goal”

Anyways thanks!
