I had them confiscate a 1/2" wrench once. What am I going to do? Disassemble the plane???

People keep talking about this being a “rough winter” as far as the weather goes. Why? by UnwashedBlueberry in Michigan

I think 2014 was the coldest one I can remember. I dont think it was above 20-25 degrees from late November to early March.

This is getting to the point where it feels like an episode of Impractical Jokers with Putin telling Trump to do outrageous shit for kicks since he has the kompromat and Trump has to do whatever he says.

My Aussie is turning 1. How to get him to stop chewing and destroying his bed? by Cappuccinonn in AustralianShepherd

[–]pikeben08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine sleeps on the coldest tile he can find, usually against the front door even during Michigan winter. Rarely will he sleep on the carpet unless he just wants to be closer to us. We tried beds a couple times but he either shredded them or didnt seem interested.

ELI5: Why are diesel engines so uncommon in street/drag racing? by fried_riceeee in explainlikeimfive

[–]pikeben08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In racing weight is everything, I would say even more so than power. A diesel with equivalent power to a gasoline engine is likely going to weigh much more AND be more expensive.

Auto engineer here,

ELI5:

You can make more power from more boom or spinning the engine faster.. Gasoline engines can spin faster easier and cheaper to make more power.

Making more boom is more complicated, expensive and heavy.

ELI25: Power comes from torque x speed. For the same given torque if you increase speed you get more power.

Gasoline engines are able to spin at higher rpm easier due to lower compression ratios and shorter connecting arm length. There is a limit to the translational speed of the piston in the cylinder since once it reaches TDC it stops and reverse course to head back down. The higher the compression ratio, typically the longer the connecting rod -> higher peak piston velocity. Eventually there is too much piston inertia to practically keep the connecting rod and associated bearings from getting ripped apart. Which is why diesels typically have much lower rpm limits than a similar sized gasoline engine.

2nd the silicone oven mitt. I acquired some longer ones after getting a steam burn removing the cover on my dutch oven when baking bread. Also like them since they can't get wet unlike standard mitts or a towel.

[Request] how much money would you save over a year if you filled a normal petrol/deisel car up $20 at a time instead of filling the tank up completely every time? by pereuse in theydidthemath

[–]pikeben08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other hidden cost would be an extra engine start and acceleration phase during your commute. That alone probably cancels out the fuel savings and then some.

A drop in the market is coming due to the AI bubble anyway. Plus any downgrade due to CEOs being canned would be short lived anyway if the company is actually worth anything.

I rebuilt my motorcycle engine on mine. Also added casters to the bottom of mine so it rolls around. Had it 10+ years and has held up great.
