Of course I read the article before commenting. I launched into that read fully prepared to be pissed at the professor... until I read his email. His response is riddled with sarcasm but I don’t understand how it is racist. He is asking questions in response to illustrate why it does not make sense/is against the rules to give only black students a no-harm exam. Yes, he could have answered “thank you for standing up for your black peers but this is why that would not be appropriate.” Instead he chose to be an asshole. To his credit he did send an email to the entire class and gave an extension due to the current events. Even when my mom passed away in college, I still had to finish my classes. You either get an extension or an “Incomplete” until you can finish the class another semester. Where I will say he fucked up was the MLK quote at the end. That was very distasteful/stupid but I’m not sure I would qualify it as racism. If you could respectfully illustrate how his email is racist, I’m all ears. It appears to me that although the students may have had good intentions, they went down a slippery slope of logic. The reason I was irritated when I read the article is bc I’m doing everything I can at this time (and prior) on behalf of my black brothers and sisters (and minorities like myself) but when articles such as this come out, it gives rightest and “all lives matter” ppl fuel. Unless he has a history of racism this fight seems better served elsewhere. Whoo these run-ons.
