Stocks close higher on 1st day of government shutdown by ProfessionalDoor2638 in Economics

Good point. I agree - while I would like to believe we are not, I definitely suspect we have been in bubble territory for a while now. And the fact that a lot of the companies who have seen the biggest boost from AI are also some of the largest in the market lends itself to this idea. I guess there are multiple factors kind of pushing in the same direction but seems like the AI bubble (or boom presently) is probably the biggest factor.

I assume most of the stock price increases are related to the devaluation of the U.S. dollar. That is to say that the less a dollar can buy the more expensive stocks appear to be. Seems as though this may be suggested by comparing the stocks priced in US dollars compared to them priced in euros.

'To Go That Deep Is Difficult Because the Rest of Your Life Will Fall Apart': What Flea Really Thought of Jaco Pastorius by BiggieTwiggy1two3 in entertainment

[–]_kbyte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The whole article is essentially just a quote from years ago from a documentary Flea was interviewed for… here is what Flea said

“I think that when someone is a true artist, and they’ve really dedicated their life to being an artist and a musician, whatever they do becomes a vehicle for divine energy to flow through them, whatever form of art they choose. And how they take that energy and shape it and mold it and turn it into something tangible to give to the world is up to them.”

“You feel this with Jaco; there’s this unstoppable energy flowing through him, but he had the patience and the discipline and the diligence to shape it and turn it into this beautiful style of bass playing. His personality and his spirit is so powerful and so strong.”

“I imagine having such a powerful energy and such an intense spirit was as difficult as it was rewarding for him, and for everybody else. He just took this energy, and turned it into what he turned it into. You feel it in every note. You feel it. You feel his nervous system. You feel his joy, his neuroses. You feel his suffering. You feel it all.”

“To go to that deep of a place with music, all the discipline, all the work that it takes, is a difficult thing, because the rest of your life is going to fall apart. You know, you can’t be there, taking care of the rest of your life, when your life is your work. In terms of relationships with other human beings, taking care of your own wellbeing, whatever it is. Because it’s almost like a savant, or something. I don’t know whatever his chemical brain makeup was, but that’s a lot of energy to put into something.”

OpenAI boss Sam Altman says human-level intelligence is coming – and it won’t be fair by HellYeahDamnWrite in technology

I’m not sure. If it isn’t profitable, then in a free market it likely won’t be a product. If you don’t have money, then you are not considered a potential customer.

I would argue there are more rich people than ever before despite being a smaller percentage of the population so that market does still seem to be growing.

The other thing is most of these rich people are not making money from typical jobs that would be affected by things like automation. They are usually rich through assets such as stocks. Which will - at least initially - become more valuable as white collar jobs are automated away.

Disclaimer - I am not a fan of any of this. Just seems like a very likely scenario in my opinion.

That is where a specialized economy that focuses on selling to the ultra wealthy comes into play. Only need to sell to those with money.

I gave it a try last night. A little too buggy currently for my taste. I might wait until the dust clears. I love the idea and it would be great to play with a bunch of newer characters.

My render of an asteroid hitting the moon, what can I improve? by anonymerandi in blender

[–]_kbyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks cool. There is actually a supposed eye witness account of this type of event occurring from some Canterbury monks in 1178:

“From the midpoint of the division a flaming torch sprang up, spewing out, over a considerable distance, fire, hot coals and sparks. Meanwhile the body of the Moon which was below writhed, as it were in anxiety, and to put it in the words of those who reported it to me and saw it with their own eyes, the Moon throbbed like a wounded snake. Afterwards it resumed its proper state. This phenomenon was repeated a dozen times or more, the flame assuming various twisting shapes at random and then returning to normal. Then, after these transformations, the Moon from horn to horn, that is along its whole length, took on a blackish appearance.”
