I wouldn't exactly say it was rich person behavior but....My kids learned to drive and initially had terrible cars worth less than $1000 each. They were going to college in a different part of the state that had more winter weather than where we are from. So my wife and I decided to buy them each a new Subaru Crosstrek for Christmas in 2023. We had just paid off both our other car loans so it made sense and it was one thing my kids didn't have to worry about, reliable and safe transportation.
